The contraception debate is death to Sola Scriptura no matter what. Either all Christians unanimously misinterpreted the Bible for 19 centuries, or all of them (except Catholics and a few of the Catholic-adjacent) are misinterpreting it today. And so farewell, divine perspicuity.
For NINETEEN-HUNDRED YEARS after Christ, all Christian denominations taught birth control was sinful. Starting in 1930, Protestants flip-floppedβ€”while STILL claiming they were β€œjust following the Bible”. Sola Scriptura failed them again.🧡

After Paul met the risen Christ, he spent three days in Damascus, blind, fasting, and praying. Then Ananias came and said, β€œGet up and have yourself baptized and your sins washed away, calling upon his name” (Acts 22:16). Not β€œyour sins were washed away three days ago.”

My 6th grade students are capable of understanding that Purgatory isn't a physical location, a waiting room, or a pause between death and judgement. They literally have a quiz tomorrow over Particular Judgement, Final Judgement, Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory. Some of these accounts you follow would fail this 6th grade quiz.

Hey @grok Was birth control in marriage considered sinful by all Christians before the 20th century?

Two Protestants. Same Bible. Different conclusions. Zero binding authority to settle the dispute. This is exactly how Sola Scriptura functions and why, by nature, Protestantism produces nothing but chaos and division.

My fellow Catholics. It has been alleged that some of you have been using "You have no right to interpret the Bible" as a last resort when dealing with Protestants. For your sake, I'm embarrassed. That should be our first resort.

Jesus is God and died for us all, so we all have some kind of relationship with Him. Even atheists have a relationship with him, based on denial and resentment. So you're just like everyone else in that. Now how do you know that He is as content with the relationship as you are?
"I'm not religious, but I have a relationship with Jesus." How do you feel about this phrase? Be honest.

I won't say that ALL believers in Sola Scriptura are motivated by a desire to remake Christianity in their own image, preferably in a way that didn't involve giving up their favorite vices and besetting sins. I can only speak for myself. And I certainly was.

Okay, I "read the Bible" and confirmed that the passage to which you are referring has nothing to do with abortion but is rather a prescription for testing a woman suspected of adultery and who most likely isn't even pregnant when it takes place. Now what? biblegateway.com/passage/?se…

The only time the boibls mentions abortion it is instructions on how to perform one. Read the fucking bible you hypocrite.

@rockreborn22 it’s well known that you ignore arguments from men but constantly engage with Catholic female accounts to the point of creeping on every post. None of them are going to date you, big dog. We see you πŸ‘€
Except this wasn’t the post where you asked about my husband (which you did delete because of pushback). This was after, which is why I found you creepy because you wouldn’t leave me alone. You have blocked and unblocked me 3 times. So tell me @rockreborn22 who is unstable here?

How do you determine what written works are Scripture? And having so determined, how do you know what readings are correct? Catholics say: trust Christ's church in this matter even if it conflicts with your own feelings and inclinations. Protestants say: trust yourself. Pr 3:5

The early Christians had bishops, sacraments, liturgy, and a Eucharist they believed was truly the Body and Blood of Christ.

Since when do I have 1,000 followers? I need to lose some. The NO Mass is valid... but the TLM is better. There is no salvation outside the Catholic church... But salvation of the invincibly ignorant is theoretically possible. and finally... On Eagle's Wings is a good hymn.

There is no reference to a β€œbiblical Christian” in the Bible.

When the whole world is split between Islam and communism and the Catholic Church is a tiny enclave of 12,000 people, the executions will resume. Some heretic or predator will be burned at the stake and everyone will look around like "we could have just done that the whole time?"

Once you become a "Bible Christian", the devil's fondest hope is that you remain just that, and never ask where the Bible came from, how you know that you are reading it correctly, or why it presupposes the existence of a single church to which you must belong to be saved.
