That’s not how it’s supposed to work. Government lawyers represent the government, not any individual, even the president. But even apart from that, witnesses with potential exposure to claims they violated the law would be wise to have personal representation by private lawyers who actually can look out for their personal interests as opposed to the president’s or the administration’s or anyone else’s. (Not that I actually care about any of their interests ....)
