I used to do consulting for indie devs. Making the right structure for your game studio gives you a huge advantage for success. I've studied many big indies and this is some of the best advice I've seen.
Good programming + clear vision + knowing the market
ALT New Blood CEO Dave Oshry gives advice for the game industry. Don't listen to guys like Tim Sweeney

So, as someone whose job is literally to analyze and track these things, Paul is spot on here. Score inflation is absolutely a thing, and there are a lot of reasons for it. The scale is part of it, though there are other factors at play too.
I get that people do not want to hear it, but the video game industry has been shaped almost entirely into a US letter grade system over the years due to score inflation
like this chart is...quite close to accuate, at least per public perception and how people react to scores when given (we can uh, avoid the GPA calcuation)
There are tweaks certainly. I'd throw an A+ in there, and anything above a 90 is probably a flat A in most people's view. I'd make 60 a D- but yes, like in school, anything under a 60 is almost certainly a failure. Things like 2s don't even functionally work most of the time. If a studio releases a AAA game that lands a 60 across the board, it is likely in some pretty serious danger. This is not how things work in movie or TV scoring
I do think the focus is narrowing too much, even with this scale reference. It at least feels like 90% of big releases this year are between like an 84-89

My favorite part about Godzilla vs Megalon is the scene early in the movie where Megalon is swatting a bunch of airplane out of the air, and since they reused old footage from a different movie, he randomly has curved blades for hands(aka Gigan’s).
You let me interview the Mega Man devs, you’d best believe you are getting questions like this.

"Toho should win another Oscar for this film. Should be nominated for best picture."

I’m a big Monster Hunter guy, so you’d best believe I had thoughts when I played the expansion for IGN at Tokyo Game show. Check it out!
We played Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance and found that this expansion might be the endgame we’ve been waiting for.

Check out my recent preview TGS! As a longtime Mega Man player, I thought the level had a nice ramp up in difficulty, and playing as proto man is rad.
Check out our latest Mega Man: Dual Override preview, where we played as Proto Man this time. bit.ly/4y9XZW4
If anyone at TGS has their flight home cancelled by the typhoon, and need a place to stay, please hit me up. We can make room.
