I haven't posted here in a while.
But we filed this today, to support @PerkinsCoieLLP that said no to the unconstitutional EO by the president.
We're filing similar briefs on Friday to support @JennerBlockLLP and @WilmerHale.

I just stress ate a pint of ice cream because I didn't have any potato chips - my usual stress eating food - in the house.
How's your evening going?

Happening tomorrow. APALSA is hosting a civil rights panel with Prof. Chang for Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution. @KorematsuCtr

Trump’s effort to restrict birthright citizenship by executive order is (1) unlawful; (2) predicated on conflating two entirely distinct legal arguments; and (3) doomed to fail in (even these) courts.

Anyone else feeling cognitive dissonance by the juxtaposition of the federal holiday commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the slew of executive orders issued by the new administration?

The City of Angels has its own angels, the many firefighters and first responders who charge into danger to help everyone affected by the wildfires. Thank you, firefighters for risking everything to help us in this time of need. Please share #laloalcaraz cartoons.
Haven't gotten my author copies yet from @CambridgeUP, but managed to snag a copy from Amazon.

It’s obscene, but unsurprising, that the state govt of Alabama once again degrades itself by making money from abusively selling the labor of its prisoners. Even less surprising that Alabama seems to care the least about it when the prisoners are Black.
@AnotherSlavery
In Alabama, the man frying chicken at KFC and the woman making beds at Holiday Inn could be a prisoner. The state earns millions leasing inmates to hundreds of companies, deeming them safe enough to work, but routinely denying them parole. apnews.com/article/prison-to…

#OTD in 1944, the United States Supreme Court held unanimously in Ex Parte Mitsuye Endo that the federal government could not indefinitely confine U.S. citizens of Japanese ancestry who were “concededly loyal” in War Relocation Authority (WRA) camps.

Today is the 80th anniversary of the dual Supreme Court decisions in Korematsu v United States and Ex parte Endo. Court critics view Korematsu, which validated the Japanese American incarceration, as one of the court's worst decisions. 1/3
Thank you @laloalcaraz for allowing us, for our book cover, to use your stunning political cartoon that captures what was at stake when ethnic studies was banned, a precursor to the suppression of knowledge today.
Do you care about today's culture wars and book bans, banning of so-called divisive concepts, CRT, and the teaching of certain aspects of history?
If so, this book may be for you. With co-author @chicanostocracy. January 2025 from @CambridgeUP.

It me.
“I’m grateful to students in the clinic who worked on this during Thanksgiving break, even as they were preparing for their final exams,” said Professor Chang. “I’m proud of their commitment to advance justice.”
And I'm not even teaching in the clinic.
Prof. Robert S. Chang (@KorematsuCtr), executive director of the Fred T. Korematsu Center for Law and Equality, helped secure a preliminary injunction for a client against two Arkansas laws targeting foreign ownership of agricultural land & data centers. bit.ly/4iqO46N
I joined as co-counsel in a challenge to the Arkansas Alien Land Law. See article and Bluesky post.
We have hit the ground running at our new home @UCILaw.
