After 2024 the woke tide went out far enough that I let it slip to some colleagues that I think truth claims can be empirically assessed even when they have a leftist valence, am I cooked
"One day a bridge collapsed, and no one came to fix it"
My 18-year old was at a friend’s last night. One of the attendees (same age) was found in the bathroom on the floor, having a seizure.
My daughter yelled for someone to call 911, and they did. This is a small SW Ontario city.
More than HALF AN HOUR later, the 911 people called back and said there were no ambulance teams to send and asked if he was “still okay.”
“NO, HE IS STILL HAVING SEIZURES.”
The ambulance never came. The kids ended up calling the boy’s mom back and told her the ambulance wouldn’t come, so she came to the house and for him and drove him herself (from out of town).
What the fuck is happening.

We’re honestly supposed to believe Brazil swung nearly 10 points to the Left since the first round just a few weeks ago lol
Even if you gave all of Avante's votes to Lula, that's still a 7 point shift in barely three weeks!
Blue tick niggas, does X The Everything App crash less and load faster for you? Because this has become ridicilous
The "glass cliff", once proposed, must immediately become an unchallengable tenet of liberal orthoxy, because the obvious alternative explanation for why orgs led by women disproportionately fail can never be uttered aloud
A senior McKinsey partner was stripped of his leadership role after questioning the “glass cliff”--a concept supported by scant empirical evidence.
I investigated the LinkedIn spat that led to his downfall and discovered two authors who turned the controversy into a publicity campaign for their new book.
My investigation for @Quillette. Unpaywalled:

Women's sizes being numbers but the numbers don't actually mean anything objective is a perfect summary how of women go through the world

On gym attire:
There is an innate fantasy women have that goes like this: I am super duper pretty and everyone notices and loves me for this, but also this attention and power come with zero further implications or downsides
The fantasy is one thing, being frustrated it isn't reality is another
Most girls grow out of this as part of normal development (and you should! it's not realistic), learning that large amounts of attention and affection from, say, your dad, are freely given
....but that same kind of attention from strangers comes with strings attached
Posting bikini pics that get 10M likes means you have a lot of men saving them for...gross reasons
Going to the gym wearing next to nothing is attention grabbing for a reason, and you don't get to decide whose attention it grabs or the nature of that attention
It's a bit of a black pill, and you tend to (or, should) figure it out somewhere in your teens: strange men do not want to adore and dote on you for zero reason
To be clear, negative attention can happen even when you aren't doing something specifically out of the ordinary
Getting catcalled often happens in the most normal outfits - it's just the flip side of being young and pretty
The issue is this has evolved into almost an ideology: rather than recognizing the reality that attention is a double-edged sword, there's an impulse to regulate the attention i.e. "You can only notice me in the ways I want"
You become like the dog meme below, saying "No sexual thoughts, only attention"
Unfortunately for its advocates, this line of thinking is waging war with reality itself

Merely saying Somalis are stealing the money is one thing; people kinda expect it and hate it without much caring
Showing up at the Quality Learing Center, on the other hand, and giving a few visceral images of what the lightbulb heads are up to, really struck home with people and did more to combat socialism in practice—Dewayne held programs—than any number of articles or general talks previously produced on it
“We need to stop Ilhan Omar from giving your money to her coethnics” is the same sentence as “we need to stop socialism,” but is much more convincing

People making this about California being soft on crime but I'm pretty sure this is just the result of the Bay Area becoming a Chinese ethnic enclave.
A Berkeley chemical engineer who suffered years of unexplained illness discovered through a spy camera from Amazon that her coworker, David Xu, was poisoning her food and water with cadmium, a toxic heavy metal for nearly 18 months between 2017 and 2019. The victim experienced significant health problems and at times required emergency care at a hospital. Newly released video shows Xu appearing to put a substance in her water bottle in 2019.
Xu was arrested that year and charged with attempted murder and two counts of poisoning, offenses that could have sent him to prison for life. But under a plea deal, the attempted murder charge and one poisoning count were dropped. Xu pleaded no contest to one felony poisoning charge and received two years of probation, with credit for one day served. He completed probation in March and is now seeking to have his felony conviction dismissed.
