We also found that more children who attended an author visit read daily in their free time and make use of their school library.
TLDR: Author visits have a positive impact on children and young people’s reading and writing engagement, especially among those on free school meals

ALT Graphic showing that more children who had an author visit say they use their school library compared to those who didn't have a visit (72% vs 58%). The two percentage figures are shown in large circles in the centre of the graphic. There is also a cartoon child reading a book at the bottom of the graphic.

Author visits have declined since 2019 when more than 1 in 4 children told us they had been to one.
Schools with a high intake of pupils on free school meals are least likely to receive an author visit despite these children benefiting the most from these experiences.

ALT Graphic showing black text over a bright yellow background. Children on free school meals who have an author visit are much more likely to enjoy reading. Bar chart showing the impact that author visits have on children's reading enjoyment. Those who benefit the most are children on free school meals (59% who had an author visit read daily in their free time).
