Prop owners short arms often struggle to reach inside deep pockets @jayparsons They ‘could’-but don’t-fix probs sometimes also bc lax code enforcement or bldg officer fraternization
Why should renters care about property value when all they want is a livable home? @awmoselle
If a property manager has code violations (especially safety issues), a "rent strike" just exacerbates what is likely a cash flow problem, makes it less likely the problems get fixed, and makes it harder to sell to new owner who could fix it up.
Better options are fines that go into a rental assistance program, and if not doable, various actions to either force a sale or provide city-backed loan tied to improvements + maybe even renewal rent restrictions for duration of loan.
Interesting cuz Santa Monica staff who fuck up are allowed to retire like the previous police chief and a building officer who cornered me in my apt and threatened physical harm while another just stood there and watched

The Hillside Villa tenants have now defeated all 35 eviction cases filed against them. The last three remaining cases were either won or dismissed this week. @hillside_villa @ccedLA
These are the same cases that @EunissesH's office explicitly told the tenants not to fight.

The Council will likely see a 6-1 majority for the progressive block. Even a comeback in late counting by Phil Brock would leave the Council at 5-2.
