Detained by ICE on her way to Mass yesterday, Sr. Letty is reunited finally with Sr. Norma Pimental, Pope Francis used called Sr. Norma his “favorite nun.” Quite a moment that shows the human face of rounding up people randomly.

Despicable: the House just passed a farm bill that includes the SOB Act to keep pigs imprisoned in crates. Our last hope is to keep this out of the Senate farm bill. Call your senators at (202) 224-3121 and tell them NO farm bill bill with the Save Our Bacon Act in it.
This is shocking: the House Rules Committee just blocked a vote on stripping the Save Our Bacon Act from the farm bill. The SOB Act, buried deep in the farm bill, would wipe out state bans on pork from crated pigs, condemning millions to a lifetime in gestation crates. We were getting very close to having the votes to pass Rep. Luna’s bipartisan amendment to strip the SOB Act from the bill on the floor of the House. Then pork industry lobbyists got to work. Behind closed doors, they got Rules Committee leadership to stop a vote entirely and protect the SOB Act from the scrutiny it can’t survive. The only option now is to kill the whole rotten farm bill. Please call your representatives at (202) 225-3121 and tell them to vote NO.

This is a pivotal moment not only for sparing millions of pigs from torture, but also for testing whether any meaningful regulation of industrial animal agriculture—an industry that devastates animal welfare, public health, and the environment—will be possible in our country in the near future. Please call your representatives today, and ask them to kill the Farm Bill.

Hundreds of millions of people throughout the world are immersed in extreme poverty. Yet, disproportionate wealth remains in the hands of a few. It is an unjust scenario, in the face of which we cannot fail to question ourselves and commit to change things. There is no lack of resources at the root of disparities, but the need to address solvable problems related to a more equitable distribution of wealth, to be achieved with moral sense and honesty.

We see our home planet as a whole, lit up in spectacular blues and browns. A green aurora even lights up the atmosphere. That's us, together, watching as our astronauts make their journey to the Moon.

Whatever your feelings on events in the Middle East If it was your children lining those graves, the Babylon Bee wouldn't hesitate to joke about it and minimise it, just as they did when three Christians were killed at Holy Family Church last summer and they accused the Catholic community there of being Hamas supporters The pope, however, would undoubtedly mourn and pray for your family

🚨 Cardinal Blase J. Cupich condemns the video posted by the White House. The cardinal, Archbishop of Chicago, denounced in very clear and forceful terms the decision to post on social media a video splicing scenes from popular action films with actual footage of the strikes on Iran, captioned: “JUSTICE THE AMERICAN WAY.” @CardinalBCupich #Cupich #Iran #WhiteHouse #War #Church #MiddleEast #Conscience #SilereNonPossum

Want to know the craziest part about insurance company Pre Authorization Denials ? The insurance company defines the network of providers the patient can use When they deny care, they are effectively saying "we don't trust the judgement of the doctors we require you to use" 🤯🤯🤯

Five stories from just the last 24 hours: 1. Minnesota police chief says ICE has been unconstitutionally stopping & pulling guns on *his own* off-duty officers who are brown/black. 2. The Social Security Administration referred two DOGE employees for Hatch Act violations after discovering contacts with a political group seeking SSA data to overturn election results. 3. Canada struck a historic trade deal with China, declaring them more "predictable" than the U.S., then its PM warned of a rupture with the U.S. and the "end of the rules-based international order." 4. Trump quietly pardoned a slew of more white collar criminals, almost all of whom were convicted of fraud. 5. NYTimes released an editorial documenting how Trump has made $1.4 billion (with a "b") dollars off the presidency in his first year in office -- just on the publicly documented trades and transactions. That's legitimately 24 hours of news, and it's just scratching the surface.

People on social media are suggesting giving out canned goods and ramen for Halloween and I’m starting to think perhaps if I were the Queen I would require everyone to have to experience one year of being broke. “Here you go, kids! You thought this was a fun candy holiday? Well guess what! I, The Good Citizen, am here to make sure to remind you that until your parents figure out how to stop struggling, that you don’t get to experience delight or joy!” Like… just help stock a food pantry or something. Think about how you would want to spend the holiday if it were you. Think about how you would want your own kids’ day to go.

Even if you didn’t like the street vendors, this is no win. Thoughtful measured governance is always going to be harder than threats and brute force. If we give up liberty for “order,” we’re on a dangerous path.

With all of the new federal law enforcement out on D.C. streets, make sure to follow @potomacpressdc and @NFTC_News. These guys are local, they know they lay of the land, and they're often getting lots of on-the-ground footage from residents who are seeing what's happening.

My child is less than 2 months old and therefore is not vaccinated yet against measles. I cannot believe I have to worry about his vulnerable little body getting it in the year 2025. Being anti-vax is not a personal choice. You drag us all along for the ride.
