Every $1 that gets invested in legal services = $8.40 return to increase economic opportunity & remove barriers that otherwise couldn't be removed w/o an attorney. We stand w/ @ACLUofWisconsin in asserting that fully funding legal aid services is not only right, it's good for WI.
We provide hundreds of referrals to legal aid organizations every year.
This morning, we submitted comments to the Supreme Court of Wisconsin in support of Rule Petition 24-05 to adequately fund the legal aid services that Wisconsinites rely upon.

This report is critical in amplifying the importance of what has become a "two-tiered system of punishment: one for those with financial needs and one for those without" when looking at debt-based sanctions.
Today we released our report "Failure to Pay: The Use of Debt-Based Carceral Sanctions and Warrants in Wisconsin’s Municipal Courts."
aclu-wi.org/en/press-release…
Municipal court debt collection has collateral consequences that often extend beyond the individual to their family including the suspension of drivers licenses -further exacerbating already financially stressed families with the inability to get to work.
We appreciate the efforts of @ACLUofWisconsin in bringing the practice of issuing warrants, jail time and other harmful sanctions for failure to pay municipal debts to the forefront of the conversation around improving the well-being of low-income families in Wisconsin.
Jefferson County, we'll be at the Watertown Public Library Tuesday for a driver's license clinic! If you need help reinstating a suspended license, sign up at facebook.com/events/40762791…
