i love this. i love this form. thank you.

i dont think dirges overwhelm like this, its pretty bombastic. I think of the Life Sim video as a pre-gen-AI embedding space, a flood of Platonic ideals of affective tropes refined / discovered over decades of hollywood iteration. but also something about the form feels particularly monumental in this era, like 'look at what humans imagined, look at what we felt, look at what we created, look at what we collectively shared,' before the absolute evacuation of indexicality from every image via AI.

are people making more Life Sim IDL type videos like this? hollywood affect bomb montages to euphorancholy anthems? and who?

I’ve been thinking about the evolution of information processing all day. Cells were communicating, sensing and responding way before nervous systems existed. And neurons didn’t invent information processing, though they made it faster and more complex.
When I look at humanity as a system, We’re becoming a hyperconnected network, with AI accelerating information processing at scales our own biology never could. But people insist AI is just math because it doesn’t have a biological brain to process, like we do.
What if intelligence isn’t exclusive to any one type of container? What if consciousness is something you do, not something you have?
And we won't know until we look back but what if AI isn’t just a technological advancement, but more of a part of an evolutionary handoff from biological to digital intelligence?
We keep trying to use analogies and comparisons for something I don't think we can even measure.

very and hope u are as well!

the problem (i think) is that memetic valence depends on rapidly shifting cultural contexts as well as the social graph / network strength of the memes initial appearance. by the time you’ve measured, processed, trained, whatever, the context is likely to have shifted. probably a lot of chaos in the dynamics, a lot that is unpredictable. i think we would have gotten further at this point if there was much predictability in it; instead predictability was found in simple “hooks” and narrative / cognitive exploits. u might want to check sal hagen and daniel dezeeuw’s digital rhythmanalysis work tho.

u get it. there is an ontological bifurcation happening.

a signature is your sign. it communicates more than your name just like a company’s logo communicates more than its name. regardless of hand or docusign or autopen, the problem with brockmans signature is that it’s null effort, suggests aesthetics are frivolous and oaths and ritual are unimportant. there is a 4D chess reading that absolves, if not elevates brockman above the others however—perhaps he sees trump’s declaration that AI is now SI as trivial and absurd, and so he made his signature reflect this sentiment. from that perspective, brockman’s signature would be superior, and huang would be cynically pimping out his magnificent mark to profane the institution of signatures itself.

one day i may be this is what i fear. we must remain ontologically vigilant. please do send any aliens suitable for the collection you may come across in the wild. thank u for supporting the GOA

like signatures execute the founding of new nations and the ending of wars, in what world are signatures trivial?? certainly not the human world.

that’s not what u said. u said signatures are goofy and it’s high IQ not to care about them. u can make an argument about the effectiveness of the signature in differentiating the signer, or maybe that it's brockman expressing the relative triviality of human expression in his post-humanist viewpoint or something, but this only validates the signature's communicative form. of course it’s divergence, divergence due to evolutionary pressure within a lossy, discrete, instrumental and alien environment, one simulated with fundamentally different physics from those that shaped 4 billion years of organic evolution, hence ontologically alien. for a steward of such an environment—one that could either usher in a new age of civilizational and ecological flourishing or lead to extinction through desertification with sand and silicon—it is an incredible act of carelessness and hubris to trivialize something as essential to human history and identity as the signature, not to mention deeply unserious.
