I’m heartbroken. This is at my nephew’s university in Texas. They refused to stand for his friend who passed away because he was Jewish.
“The university did a ceremony for students who died, one was my Jewish friend. A ton of people refused to stand up for him because they played a Jewish song. It is really gross. I see it everyday. It is extremely common and throughout every party and class.”

When a synagogue is attacked, Jewish families are terrified, and children are placed in danger, the first response should be compassion and unequivocal condemnation. Not an explanation of why “hurt people hurt people.”
As an American rabbi, I was deeply troubled by Senator-elect El-Sayed's response to the Temple Israel attack. It was one of the reasons I wrote him this open letter in The Times of Israel.
I sincerely hope he will take my words to heart.
