#LincolnNews - Starting today, the Lincoln Police Department is increasing seat belt enforcement across the city as part of the national “Make It Click” campaign. The enforcement effort runs Nov. 5-30, with officers focusing on evenings, weekends, and the Thanksgiving holiday, when seat belt use may be lower. According to the 2025 Nebraska Seat Belt Use Survey, 81.7% of drivers and passengers observed were wearing seat belts, compared with the national rate of 91.3%. In 2025, Nebraska recorded 236 traffic fatalities, including 70 people who were not wearing seat belts. The department says the goal is to encourage safer driving habits and prevent traffic deaths. The campaign is funded through a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office.
