Finally back on the Five today!!!
Boggles the mind that Republicans could look at Tuesdays results and say โyou know who needs a bigger job? Stephen Miller.โ
Tuesday was a repudiation of everything the Trump administration stands for. And they need new talking points because โoh the Democrats are going to do Medicare for allโ isnโt scaring anyone.
Largest victory in half a century. Incredible.
Maddow: It is Black women who won every single one of those races in Georgia for the Democratsโgovernor, secretary of state, attorney general, agriculture commissioner, insurance commissioner, school superintendent, labor commissioner and public service commissioner.

I can't say I'm much a fan of Gavin Newsom, but credit where it's due: commuting all 548 death sentences in California is the right move. In one fell swoop, he just took a quarter of the nation's death sentences off the table. Pretty amazing.

Katherine Clark: "There is one image that has stuck with me. It's the video of the memorial to Alex Pretti and Renee Good. It is covered with 'I Voted' stickers. Hundreds and hundreds of people went to that memorial and put that sticker there. Each one placed by an American who cast their ballot in the ultimate act of hope."

I stopped by Renee and Alexโs memorials today and was inspired to see all those who showed up to pay their respects and leave an โI votedโ sticker.
We have not forgotten. Accountability is coming.

Profoundly heartbreaking to see voters from Texas to Minnesota leave their โI Votedโ stickers at memorials for people killed by Trumpโs ICE agents.
A reminder of whatโs at stake this election.

My wife woke me at 3 a.m. with a pain in her jaw and a tight feeling across her chest. She was 44. We drove to the ER. The doctor on shift listened for about ninety seconds and said, "It's anxiety. You've been under stress. Take a deep breath."
She was sweating through her shirt. She kept saying, "It doesn't feel like anxiety."
He nodded and wrote something. A discharge form came out of the printer.
A triage nurse was passing the room with a cart. She slowed down, looked at my wife's face, then at the printer, then at me. "Has anyone done an ECG?"
"The doctor said it's not necessary," I said.
Hereโs one of the most fascinating child development videos Iโve ever shared.
As your baby learns language, they begin by approximating the examples you set.
After a period of early experimentation with sound (including cries, coos and gurgles), infants begin babbling - making speech-like sounds (which often include components of conventional speech) that are - nonetheless - not yet conventionally meaningful.
This babbling phase is a precursor to the use of formal words. And it happens in all languages.
Including sign language.
This video shows an infant (who, by the way, is not hearing impaired) โbabblingโ to her deaf grandparents.
As they sign to her, she responds in kind, using her hands to approximate the signed communication that they are modeling.
Itโs a whole serve and return conversation, just as if they were conversing verbally.
If youโll watch carefully, youโll note distinct turn taking.
And - interestingly - that with her grandparents she largely avoids vocalizations, in favor of gesture.
What a treat to see this rich example of bilingual language development.

Iโve kept my mouth shut for a long time about #meangirl @megynkelly. She used to be one of my closest friends and then she ghosted me after she endorsed @andrewcuomo for mayor and I told her she broke my heart. Her comments about @1capplegate are disgusting. Having #MS for over 20 years, she knows how long it took for doctors to diagnose me. I think Christina is brave for telling the truth and Iโm grateful she became a voice for so many of us. I will have much more to say about this when Iโm well enough. Iโve been sick for several weeks in and out of the hospital but when Iโm well enough I will comment more. realitytea.com/2026/10/21/meโฆ

He drove his wife to one of the best hospitals in America for a planned caesarean. A routine one. Her second.
Charles Johnson watched her blood collect in a catheter bag for ten hours while he asked for help.
Kira Johnson died at 2:22am.
Cedars-Sinai, Los Angeles, 12th April 2016. Kira Johnson was 39. She spoke five languages, raced cars, ran marathons. The caesarean was scheduled. Everything about it was routine.
Her son Langston was delivered at midday.
By the afternoon her husband could see blood in her catheter. He told a nurse. He was told they would check.
He asked again. And again. A CT scan was ordered and then not performed. He has described being told, at one point, that his wife was simply not a priority right now.
He stood in a corridor for ten hours asking people to look at his wife.
They took her back to theatre just after midnight. There were three litres of blood in her abdomen. She died shortly after.
Her son Langston was twelve hours old.
Charles Johnson has spent the decade since as one of the most effective advocates in American maternal health. He founded 4Kira4Moms. He has testified before Congress. The federal Black maternal health legislation introduced in recent years carries work he pushed for.
He talks about one thing more than any other, and it is not the medicine.
It is the ten hours. He was standing right there, in the building, awake, articulate, asking. And it made no difference at all.
