What a team! Anhangá project. Measuring the impact of poaching on forest wildlife. @MarcusRowcliffe @GrottaNeto @AgenciaFAPESP @ImprensaUniara
LabCon team 🌿 recording gunshots in the field.
The idea is to train an algorithm to detect these sounds in bioacoustic recorder data 🌳.

5/ Does phylogeny predict ecology? 🤔 Surprisingly, we found only a weak correlation between phylogenetic distance (PD) and ecological difference (ED), meaning habitat use evolved flexibly.
4/ But which antler type came first? 🧐 Using ancestral state reconstruction, we found that spiked antlers are actually the ancestral trait, with branched antlers evolving later in some lineages.
3/ We tested whether spiked-antlered species are more associated with forest environments than their branched-antlered relatives. 🌳 Our results? Yes! Spiked-antlered species show a stronger link to dense forests.
