Why is it important to celebrate Black History? Black Canadians have played an important role of building and shaping a more prosperous, diverse, and inclusive Canada. This month encourages us to oppose anti-Black racism, hate and discrimination.

5th: Break the silence. Talk about it. 2/3 people suffer in silence, fearing judgement and rejection. Do a self-check and see if you’re open to having a conversation with another. Be a good listener and a friend. We all need someone who is willing to listen. #BellLetsTalk

4th: Listen and ask! Be a good listener and ask how you can help or being there for people you care for can be the first step to recovery. You could say: I noticed __. Is everything ok? What are some ways you might mention and notice your co-worker’s mood? #BellLetsTalk

3rd: Be kind to one another. Smiling, being a good listener, or inviting others for a chat are simple acts of kindness that can show someone that you are there for them. What are some ways you have been kind to others? #BellLetsTalk

2nd: Educate yourself. Education is the key when it comes to mental illness. If you have the right tools, know the right words to use and understand how to speak correctly with someone experiencing mental illness, it can help both of you feel more comfortable. #BellLetsTalk
