Why does every gas obey one simple equation?
Boyle’s, Charles’, Avogadro’s and Gay-Lussac’s laws each relate two variables.
Their combination produces the ideal gas law PV = nRT.
This equation designs engines, predicts weather, and sustains life support in space.
Where have you seen PV = nRT shape technology around you?

Although these equations belong to different branches of science, they describe remarkably similar ideas.
Clausius viewed entropy through the flow of heat, Boltzmann through the multiplicity of microscopic states, and Shannon through the uncertainty of information.

In 1916, Karl Schwarzschild found the first exact solution to Albert Einstein's field equations while serving on the Eastern Front during World War I. Working from the theory of General Relativity published just months earlier, he showed how spacetime behaves around a perfectly spherical, non rotating mass.
The Schwarzschild metric is written as:
ds² = −(1 − 2GM/c²r)c²dt² + (1 − 2GM/c²r)⁻¹dr² + r²dθ² + r²sin²θ dφ²
This single equation explains gravitational time dilation, the bending of light, the motion of planets, and even predicts the existence of black holes. More than a century later, it remains one of the most important solutions in all of physics.
this paper is absolutely f*cking insane
the best quant firms are not trying to predict the entire market
they strip every move into pieces, isolate the one part that looks slightly less random, and trade only that
the result: even a 51% edge can become an entire business when it is sized correctly and repeated thousands of times
the crazy part is how small the opportunity can be
one stretched residual
one temporary liquidity imbalance
a few cents of expected value
on a single trade, it looks like noise
but across 10,000 disciplined repetitions, math turns that tiny edge into something discretionary traders cannot compete with
the edge was never the prediction
the edge was finding the signal, surviving the variance, and repeating it before the crowd kills it
bookmark this before it gets buried

The Ultraviolet Catastrophe and the Quantization of Energy ✍️
The story of the ultraviolet catastrophe is one of the most dramatic and consequential episodes in the entire history of human knowledge, and it begins in a place of supreme confidence and ends in a revolution that nobody saw coming. By the late 1800s, physicists were genuinely convinced that they had figured out the universe. Newton had explained motion and gravity with breathtaking precision, Maxwell had unified electricity and magnetism into a single elegant theory of electromagnetic waves, and thermodynamics had given scientists iron laws governing heat and energy that seemed completely unbreakable.
The mood among physicists was almost celebratory. Some were openly saying that physics was nearly finished, that the major discoveries had all been made and what remained was simply filling in details and measuring things more precisely. The universe seemed like a perfectly understood clockwork machine, every gear and spring accounted for, every law known and tested. And then someone tried to calculate how a glowing hot object radiates energy, and the entire magnificent structure of classical physics collapsed into absurdity, because the answer that came out of the calculation was not a number. It was infinity. To understand why this happened and why it was so catastrophically wrong, you need to understand the concept of a black body, which is an idealized object that absorbs every wavelength of radiation that hits it and reflects nothing, and when heated, emits radiation whose spectrum depends only on temperature and nothing else.
Real objects like the sun, heated metal, and even the cosmic microwave background radiation filling all of space approximate black bodies remarkably well, which is why understanding black body radiation was not just a theoretical puzzle but a question with profound practical and scientific importance. When you heat a black body, it glows, and the color of that glow changes with temperature in a very specific way. Low temperatures produce dull red glowing. Higher temperatures shift the color through orange, yellow, and white, and at extreme temperatures into bluish white. This color change happens because the distribution of radiation across different wavelengths shifts systematically with temperature, peaking at shorter wavelengths as temperature increases. Experimentalists had measured this distribution beautifully and consistently. They knew the spectrum formed a smooth hill shape, rising from zero at very short wavelengths, climbing to a clear peak at some intermediate wavelength determined by temperature, and then falling gracefully back toward zero at long wavelengths.
The data was clean, reproducible, and unambiguous. All that was needed was for theorists to derive this behavior from the established laws of physics, to show that the smooth hill shape followed logically and inevitably from classical mechanics and thermodynamics. It seemed like a straightforward exercise, the kind of satisfying calculation that demonstrated the power and completeness of classical physics. The theorists sat down, applied their most trusted tools, and calculated. What they got was not a smooth hill. What they got was a curve that rose without any limit and headed straight toward infinity, predicting that hot objects should emit infinite amounts of radiation at short wavelengths, particularly in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum, which is why this disaster was named the Ultraviolet Catastrophe. The reasoning that led to this monstrous result was not sloppy or careless. It was rigorous, careful, and based on principles that had been thoroughly tested in countless other situations.
