50 years ago today The Mothership landed. It was a day the earth couldn’t stand still. If you heard any noise, it was just George and the boys, gettin’ down.
50 years later that Mothership is one of the most popular attractions in @NMAAHC.
Well done Star Child.

Sometimes the biggest bet is on yourself.
When the two-time Emmy Award-winning journalist, Tamron Hall, walked away from NBC, she wasn't just thinking about her next chapter. She was thinking about the young Black women watching and what her decision might mean for their futures.
Since then, she's built a nationally syndicated talk show, expanded into publishing, and continued to create opportunities on her own terms.
Her journey is a testament to the power of reinvention, creative independence, and knowing your worth. And it's why we were proud to honor Tamron Hall as one of our 2026 ESSENCE Black Women in Business honorees.

This treasure of a lady sadly died on this date in 1952. Hattie McDaniel appeared in a plethora films throughout the 1930’s and 1940’s, and was the first African-American to win an Oscar for her unforgettable performance as “Mammy” in Gone With the Wind (1939). Beloved by many, she was only 59 when she succumbed to breast cancer.
