A great read about EAB aimed at kids! I really enjoyed this chance to share some important information about a beautiful but destructive bug.
Wasps have a bad reputation in my household, but I have a new appreciation for them after learning some species could save trees (& they don't sting!). Thank you @LadyoftheLeps and Dr. Jian Duan @USDA_ARS for your insights! washingtonpost.com/kidspost/…

This is a great breakdown for anyone confused about the difference between native, nonnative, pests, and invasive species! And has the bonus of beautiful animation!
Native species, non-native species, invasive species, pests....what’s the difference? Don’t worry, we break it down for you in this video. Happy National Invasive Species Awareness Week! #NISAW

What a neat observation! I love seeing examples of insects reusing things other animals have left behind.
A couple in #Australia came across this mason #wasp constructing a nest in the exuviae of a #cicada - it's our Observation of the Week! Read our blog post here: inaturalist.org/blog/61674-m… #biodiversity #insects #communityscience #nature #entomology #hymenoptera #arthropods

Not a lot of mountains here in IN but I did celebrate @mtholyoke #mountainday with ice cream and a bog walk where I saw ~8 great egrets, a bittern, and some muskrats!

Within 12h of offering the Polyphemus moth caterpillar a peach tree branch, it pupated. It will overwinter this way, protected by the leaves and silk cocoon. If you come across a mass of leaves, a twig and/or oval-shaped cocoon in leaf litter, do not destroy it.

Is this picture blurry? Yes. Am I still inordinately pleased with it? Also yes. I tried for 15 min to get a photo for the @TheLepSoc BioBlitz but it kept flitting away. One time it actually landed on my hand holding my camera. Mocking me. But I got the photo in the end!
