You’ve wet my palate, so I’m thinking dry martinis.” To her nod, he ordered two. “Quite the gem. It resembles one discovered in the Gulf of Panama four hundred years ago. The African slave who stumbled upon it was granted his freedom.” —“It is La Pelegrina. I purchased it this week from Felix Yusupov. Would you care to touch it?” —He licked his lips and did so. “The whole package. Extraordinary.” —Alexandra remained unsure who he was. “Funny, Francois, that your lighter is monogrammed J.H.P.” — “I’m a man who values discretion.” The drinks arrived. He lifted his glass. “To mysteries.” —She took a sip, and then her shot. “The fake mustache over a real one served as a fine ploy, but I know who you are. Here’s the deal, Le Hibouchic. If you break me into a hotel room, I’ll forget I saw you this evening.” —His poised expression grayed and crumbled. “And here is my counteroffer.” —The tip of a knife pressed into her side. #newfiction #newrelease #historicalfiction #supernaturalfiction #authors #reader #suspense #thriller #RoaringTenties
