PLATELET COUNT THRESHOLDS
Note that natural selection has provided us with a very generous cushion so that counts must typically fall from 150 to <10-20 before increased risk of bleeding.
It is cultural evolution (e.g. surgery) that has led to higher PLT count thresholds.

Going through the match process is stressful enough for trainees. Why add to that? Rejection notices are an inevitable part of the PD role, but posting it like a badge of honor goes against the ethos of a learning environment. – at Minnesota, USA

I want to say that this is basically all that Fisher ever said about why he chose 0.05 as a cut-off heuristic. Basically it was "convenient."

Even as pandemic conditions improve, we’ve gotta think hard about whether returning to in person residency interviews is the right thing to do.
There’s something lost on Zoom, sure. But the costs of in person interviews are hard to justify in the face of a workable alternative.
After months of development, I'm thrilled to announce the launch of our #interviewwithoutharm study, petition, and advocacy tool. The looming threat of climate change urgently calls for reimagining unsustainable systems and practices. Learn more at interviewwithoutharm.com

I told my non-medical friends I’d be busy studying for boards this week, and today they dropped off a ‘good luck gift’. It’s a board. Like, a 2x4. Lol

Equity practice tip: stop calling the MCAT and the USMLE exams “standardized” and “objective.” They are not. Let’s use “universally required” or “universal” instead. /1

Abdominojugular (reflux) test: place firm pressure over the abdomen, observe the effect on JVP. It has several applications.
1. It can help distinguish a venous pulse (will rise with abd pressure) from an arterial pulse (no change with abd pressure). See associated video.

Hey Program Directors! @AAIMOnline Why are International Graduates charged 50% more for all steps of #USMLE compared to US grads? Where is the equity? @jbcarmody
