My late colleague and brilliant co U.S. Science Envoy with me in the Obama Admin the @Caltech Nobel Laureate in Chemistry Ahmed Zewail would disagree. God rest his soul he didn’t have to endure this, and of course RFK Jr forgets that it was the Arab scientists of the Middle Ages who kept Aristotle, Hippocrates, Galen alive to hand it down in the Renaissance. My favorite books on this topic attached
RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Novel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

Many people are dead sure @IndyMayorJoe is running. He's not. I expect him to make that official very soon, likely next week*. *Unless he reads this column, changes his mind and runs again so I have to feature him in my annual things-I-got-wrong column. indystar.com/story/opinion/c…

North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein claimed that election officials are rejecting more mail-in ballots over technicalities — a trend he called “infuriating” while sharing a specific statistic that wasn’t supported by state data. politifact.com/factchecks/20…

Pat Fitzgerald, Comey's lawyer "This most recent case involves an October 5, 2016 New York Times article that two different teams of prosecutors investigated during the first Trump administration. Both times the Government determined that no charges should be brought against anyone. Now, ten years after the article was published, the Government filed an 'Information' against Mr. Comey that was not approved by a judge nor issued by a grand jury. It purports to charge Mr. Comey with crimes that he did not commit."
Comey's attorney Pat Fitzgerald issues a new statement after he was charged again: "For the third time in little more than one year, the Department of Justice has attempted to charge Mr. Comey with a federal crime. Mr. Comey steadfastly maintains his innocence. In September 2025, the Department of Justice used a person who was not actually a United States Attorney to seek an Indictment that was not actually shown to the grand jury. And it charged Mr. Comey with crimes that he did not commit. That case was promptly and properly dismissed. In April 2026, the Department of Justice filed charges in the Eastern District of North Carolina concerning Mr. Comey’s posting of a photograph of seashells spelling '8647.'" We will not comment beyond our filings in that case. This most recent case involves an October 5, 2016 New York Times article that two different teams of prosecutors investigated during the first Trump administration. Now, ten years after the article was published, the Government filed an 'Information' against Mr. Comey that was not approved by a judge nor issued by a grand jury. It purports to charge Mr. Comey with crimes that he did not commit. We are gratified that United States District Judge Trevor McFadden has ordered this matter unsealed. Mr. Comey will fight these charges vigorously and in the open."

How fantastic to see democracy alive in Serbia! The Serbian Student List victory in Sunday’s snap election quickly saw 12-year strongman, pro-Russian nationalist Aleksandar Vučić concede. This comes after he allowed convicted genocidal war criminal Ratko Mladić a hero’s funeral last month. Like in 2000 when Serbian student protest movement Otpor defeated wartime leader Slobodan Milošević, young people have come out again to determine their future. And in Brazil too. In both countries, the defeated candidates were Trump favourites.

Blanche’s defense-lawyer pedigree on display here — a very on-point @margbrennan contradicts his evasion with written evidence — so he shifts the focus onto her alleged aggressiveness, then slips into a tangential non-answer. Questioning isn’t rudeness. It’s essential work.
BRENNAN: The DOJ lawsuit demands the Alaska result not be certified if voters are confused. The confusion is defined as Sen. Sullivan not winning. BLANCHE: That's not what it says BRENNAN: I'm quoting from it. You are telling them not to certify it. What right does the federal government have telling a state not to certify?
