Something you might think about here is nuance. It's possible to agree with someone about some things and not others. Eg I'm not a Tory, but I agree with the @CforWomenUK account about sex and gender. This is how grownups get things done. It's also how democracy works.

I suspect Hackney residents with cancer will think it was a good use of time and hopefully they will benefit from the money raised despite this appalling comment from their local council representative
'Is that a really good use of his time?' 'Raising money for a cancer charity?' The Green Party's @floschechter brands Andy Burnham going on Gogglebox as 'ridiculous'.

This is Brighton Council's Equality Impact Assessment for the proposed Withdean Pool with its mixed-sex changing village (via FOI). ‘Does your analysis indicate a disproportionate impact relating to Gender Identity and Sex (including non-binary and intersex people)?’ ‘Possibly YES – positive’ 🧐 Women and girls don’t need to worry about their safety in mixed-sex facilities because of ‘cubicle design’ and ‘operational management’.

This. The Dawkins post is ill-advised & tactically wrong if trying to win hearts & minds. Ofc not everyone is trying to win hearts & minds. But calling everyone with 'gender dysphoria', including distressed girls & young women, 'deluded freaks' is likely to be counterproductive.
I admit I winced slightly when I first read the phrase 'deluded freaks' in Richard Dawkins' recent post. Does it weaken his point and make 'neutrals' less likely to support it? Probably. Are there a lot of deluded male freaks throwing out far worse insults at women like JKR on here? 💯

Replying to @MindCharity
@MindCharity, a mental health charity is offering solidarity and support to people distressed by the NHS restoring women's legal rights in single sex wards and facilities. Read that again. A charity that claims to care about mental health but who cannot extend it's compassion to women and girls whose rights have been violated. Our WRN report 'When we are at our most vulnerable', evidences the sickening extent of rapes and sexual assaults in hospitals. womensrights.network/hospita… How can women access mental health support from Mind, knowing they don't support their single sex rights to hospital care. For far too long the rights of women to safety, privacy and dignity have been ignored. Women have been discriminated against, harassed and forced to fight service providers, and too often, their own employers for the right to single-sex spaces. Now Mind is offering support to those distressed by restoring those rights. What about the women who suffered while Mind stayed silent? @MindCharity is showing exactly whose mental health it is prepared to support - and whose suffering it is prepared to overlook.

Jewish schools in Stamford Hill are specifically targeted. I visited one in Hackney a couple of years ago after a paint attack. I felt so sad surrounded by so many young girls, same age as my daughter, who looked absolutely terrified by all the police officers and strangers that had descended upon them.

Thankfully the suspect was arrested but there’s an appeal for other victims and witnesses to come forward.
🚨 Hate Crime; Jewish ladies viciously assaulted 🎥 CCTV shows 2nd attack 📞 Shomrim received a call from a visibly Jewish lady, reported being punched in the face by a middle-aged male on Clapton Common, E5. 👊 Shomrim volunteers arrived on scene 30 seconds later to witness a 2nd vicious assault on another Jewish lady. She was punched twice in the face, leaving significant bruising. 🚔 @MPSHackney arrested the male for racially & religiously aggravated GBH, as well as for outstanding warrants. ✡️ The victims told Shomrim that they believe they were assaulted because they were Jewish, as the offender only targeted Jewish ladies. 📢 Appeal: Further assaults have been reported to Shomrim, with additional victims yet to come forward. Shomrim are appealing for any witnesses or indeed any further victims to come forward. ☎️ Contact @Shomrim or @MetCC quoting CAD 3400 19/10/26. #ViolenceAgainstWomenAndGirls #VAWG #HateCrime #Antisemitism #GBH

IMHO, this analogy is overused and flattens very different experiences. Winning hearts and minds is a particular challenge with the CP Bill. I think we need to be careful about how we talk publicly about who knows what’s best for people who identify as trans if we want to keep minds open enough for people to even consider that a conversion practices ban might have unintended consequences. Just my tuppence.

I just worry that minds will close, and backs go further up when people feel that those they see as hostile opponents think they know what's best for them.
Replying to @LoudBonnet
But the last thing they need is for anyone to affirm them in their delusional belief about their body. The right number of legs for a human is two; it is not good to be dangerously underweight; and you are the sex you are.

1/ This article by the Equalities Minister Bridget Phillipson is downright misleading. What is said about the law is unreliable, it confuses civil statutes for criminal ones and it completely ignores the principles of statutory constructions in crime. I explain why here:
Look at Bridget Phillipson's language here: a bill that 'allows people to be their true selves', to 'live openly and safely as themselves', that criminalises someone who tries to 'change who someone is'. The Conversion Practices bill applies in the case of a child who says they're the opposite sex. Think about that. Apply Phillipson's thinking to the parent of a four year-old boy who says 'mummy, I'm really a girl'. Or to the parent of a teenage girl who is screaming 'I'm not your daughter I'm your son, you bigot!' By trying to present the bill as completely reasonable 'common sense measures' Phillipson has only succeeded in exposing its ideological basis. Her language is pure trans activism. archive.ph/BDRJN

🧵TUC Motion 17 update: Women have been sending our model letter to their General Secretaries, asking five key questions of them. 📧We have been sent responses from Unite, Unison, NEU and NASUWT, along with follow-up emails sent to two of these unions by Women who are unhappy with the response. Read them here ➡️ filia.org.uk/latest-news/202… #WomensRightsAreHumanRights

Loudly for those having tantrums about the NHS *finally* obeying the law, some 16 years on, and providing women with necessary, separate, single sex spaces. This is partly why. I dare you to tell us you don't agree it should. I first raised this report by @JoPhoenix1 for @WomensRightsNet in spring 2023 at PMQs. Since then we've had 5 Health Secretaries, a Supreme Court clarification of The Equality Act 2010, and simple EHRC guidance. The NHS delay should shame every senior MP who failed to ensure UK law was acted on. womensrights.network/nhs-dat…

Next week, for @FiLiA_charity I am speaking in defence of Equality Act focusing on women’s interests. In doing so I’ve read various reports from opponents. But interested in wider views. For those genuinely opposed to EA or aspects of it, please kindly summarise your thinking.

This is abhorrent. We have registered charities in this country openly promoting misogyny and violence against women. I have written to the Chair of the @ChtyCommission to raise these particular cases and to establish what they are doing to prevent charitable status being used to promote abuse under the veneer of religion. As @CPhilpOfficial rightly says, the Police need to be investigating these individuals too. @NJ_Timothy @joymorrissey
The work of @NatSecSoc to challenge misogyny in the charity sector, including in mosques, features in today’s Mail on Sunday. Charity regulators – and anyone else concerned with protecting women from abuse – cannot ignore this.

Feminist academic here. No. Feminism is not 'the belief that everybody should have equal rights and opportunities'. Feminism is the belief that female people should have equal rights and opportunities as compared with male people. Stop betraying women, girls & feminism.
𝘼𝙣𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚 can be a feminist. No matter your reason for being or becoming a feminist, the goal is the same: pushing societies towards equality #ForAllWomenAndGirls. Have a look at our simple guide to the often-misunderstood topic of #feminism. 🔗 unwomen.org/en/articles/expl…
