A new government marks an opportunity to revolutionise our broken cancer care system for the thousands of people left waiting for the care they need and deserve. There's no time like the present @Keir_Starmer

Powerful call from Theresa about state of the NHS and her experience struggling with treatment and a lack of staff PM says improvements on cancer survival are being made but admits "we need to do a better job... We need to make more progress. Survival rates for all cancer rates have improved." On waiting lists he says inflation didn't come down in a straight line either

Cancer care across the UK is at breaking point, and people with cancer are facing significant challenges across all areas of their lives. The next UK government must turn the crisis around and develop a plan to revolutionise cancer care.

Cancer care is at breaking point - but this is a political choice, and better is possible. We urgently need the next UK government to prioritise a funded, long-term cross-government strategy that revolutionises cancer care and ensures everyone with cancer has access to the care they need, every step of the way.

General election = a moment to secure long-lasting change for people living with cancer. Every 90 seconds someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. But cancer care is at a tipping point. Lives are in the balance and the next UK Government has to make a change. #GeneralElection

"My hope is for everyone else, that people can avoid ending up like me." Delays in cancer care, like @NathanielD93744's are far too common and people’s lives are in the balance. But it doesn’t have to be this way. All political parties must act now on a cross-government strategy so everyone with cancer can be diagnosed and treated quickly.
"My name is Nathaniel Dye, and I'm dying of cancer" "At first I was told I'd have a rough year with treatment and surgery and then be free to live my life. When scans eventually happened further spread was discovered and my prognosis worsened" "It's all but certain that I'll be dead within three to four years" "I try not to think about what might have been if the tests, scans and appointments happened more quickly" "But I know I know waited over 100 days for treatment when the government's target is 62.. And there's a good chance that time spent on waiting lists has cut my life in half - I've just passed by 2000th week and most people will live beyond 4000" "There's a lot being said about sick notes" "If my cancer had been caught early, I would be looking at another 30 years of economic productivity, instead, I'm staring down the barrel or early retirement and early death" "My hope is for everyone else, so that people can avoid ending up like me" "I hope to see a Labour government elected that will cut waiting times by providing more scans and appointments more quickly" "I trust Keir Starmer to effect the positive change that is desperately needed"

NHS staff work tirelessly to provide patients with vital care, but staff shortages and an enormous backlog were leaving healthcare professionals stretched to breaking point, even before NHS industrial action in England. The mental and physical toll of delays to cancer treatment and care cannot be understated. We desperately need the UK Government and unions to work together to find a resolution as quickly as possible.

The application process for mentees is now closed for the year, but we are always on the lookout for more mentors. We love hearing what being part of the scheme means to mentors. Here's what @LauraRoutledge said as part of our #CharityCommsChat. xitter.gq/LauraRoutledge/status/…
A3 #CharityCommsChat I love hearing how other organisations work & building connections around the sector. I’ve learned so much from my mentees & it’s so rewarding when you’re able to use your experience to help someone find their way through something they are struggling with

The latest waiting time figures for cancer treatment are released today. In August, over 5,700 people waited more than two months to start treatment following an urgent GP referral. This was the 2nd highest figure on record. This is unacceptable.

Catching and treating cancer at an early stage is vital for giving people the best possible chance of survival. The number of people in England facing agonising waits to receive a cancer diagnosis or to start treatment is simply unacceptable. bbc.co.uk/news/health-635737…
The NHS has released new data on the number of cancer cases in England during Covid. Delays are still a reality for 10,000s of people. It's astounding the Government hasn't committed to address this. We need assurances now that cancer services will be protected.
