We built layoffhedge.com and $LAYOFF to keep tabs on every major layoff in 2026. To hold companies accountable when they fire American workers and file for cheaper foreign labor in the same quarter.
This is the largest shift in labor since the Industrial Revolution. We keep tabs on it all. The good. The bad. The ugly. The data.
The numbers right now:
580,000+ people have lost their jobs from major companies in 2026
215+ companies
230 separate layoff rounds
3,100+ jobs cut per day
Tech, finance, healthcare, retail, auto, media, telecom, manufacturing. Nobody is safe.
The last time we pinned a tweet, 41,000 of you were following. Today it is 50,000+, with 55 million+ impressions. And this stopped being a niche story.
Ron DeSantis used our data to call H-1B "a total scam" and "indentured servitude." He pushed Florida's public universities to pause H-1B hiring for a year. Newsweek cited our visa research last week and called us "a workforce analytics firm." An anonymous account with a spreadsheet became a research operation that newsrooms cite.
The receipts keep stacking. Our H-1B tool holds 6.8 million+ DOL filings across 238,000+ employers, free to search. Look up any company and see exactly who files for visas while cutting American staff. We cross-reference the layoff data against the filings and publish investigations with companies named. Journalists and researchers download our datasets free.
Last month, we partnered with Wekruit to help connect those laid off with high paying start ups and get them back in the work force. You can browse our open roles at layoffhedge.com/jobs.
Real openings from companies that are actually hiring. You interview directly with hiring managers. No resume black hole. No ghost listings. The same site that shows you who is cutting now shows you who is hiring. We spent all year tracking the layoffs. Now we can get you hired.
$LAYOFF is the stake behind the work. Every week brings another round of cuts. The story is not going away, and neither are we. A people movement that happens to have a token.
We will be here for you every step of the way.
275,000 NEW J-1 EXCHANGE VISITORS STARTED IN 2025. THE LABOR DEPARTMENT HAS NO WAGE FILING FOR ANY OF THEM.
That is the State Department's count of new J-1 participants last year.
104,609 Summer Work Travel students.
32,470 camp counselors.
17,622 research scholars.
16,877 interns.
8,605 trainees.
4,635 physicians, the most in State Department data going back to 2015.
H-1B employers must file a labor condition application with the Labor Department. J-1 has no such filing. The State Department runs the program through designated sponsors.
The Labor Inspector General now has a strike team on H-1B and J-1 fraud. Nine universities already have subpoenas.
Fraud hunters need records. J-1 employers should file the same wage paperwork H-1B employers do.
H-1B and J-1 visa fraud threatens American jobs and our national security.
@Sonderling47 and I are working alongside @POTUS and @VP’s @WHFraudTF to expose the fraud, hold those responsible accountable, and keep our nation safe. 🇺🇸
NEW YORK TO TRAIN 40,000 PEOPLE FOR AI JOBS. THE BIGGEST EMPLOYERS ARE STILL FILING FOR H-1B.
Here is what the state just launched. The AI Jobs Institute is a hub in Long Island City, Queens, run by the nonprofit Pursuit. New York State and New York City are putting $10 million behind it. The goal is to train up to 40,000 New Yorkers for AI jobs by 2032 and connect them directly to employers.
That is the right goal. The problem is on the hiring side. New York ranks 3rd after California and Texas in 2026 filings.
Look at who files for H-1B workers at New York worksites.
Amazon leads with 1,145 filings. Goldman Sachs has 872. JPMorgan Chase has 649. Morgan Stanley has 706 across two entities. Citi and BofA Securities add 538 more.
That is 2,765 filings from five banks alone.
Goldman, JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley all carry a layoff flag on this list. So does Amazon. They cut jobs here and keep filing anyway.
No training program changes that on its own. Nothing in the law makes these employers interview a single graduate first.
We're proud to announce the Pursuit AI Jobs Institute (aiji.pursuit.org), one of the first hubs in the country built to connect New Yorkers directly to the jobs AI is creating. Backed by a $10M public investment from New York State and New York City, the AI Jobs Institute will train as many as 40,000 New Yorkers by 2032 and open real pathways into AI-enabled careers.
Thank you to our partners including Ascendium Education Group, @WellsFargo, Google.org, @OpenAI , @AnthropicAI , @Mizuho, @siegelendowment, @ConEdison, @GetSpectrum, @MetLife, @Adobe, the New York Jobs CEO Council, and the Partnership Fund for New York City, and our full coalition — for helping make this possible.

CEOs at 7 out of 8 of the companies that were suspended from PERM last week were born in the country of India.
PERM is the US process employers must complete to prove no qualified American workers are available before sponsoring foreign staff for most employment green cards.
On Oct 8 the Labor Department suspended eight firms (TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Cognizant, Capgemini, Microsoft, Adobe) from new or pending PERM filings, citing investigations into high volumes of foreign-worker sponsorships and alleged displacement of US workers.
GOLDMAN SAYS AI COULD DISPLACE 9% OF AMERICAN WORKERS
That is about 15 million people.
But India reports 7% growth on the same day. We hear of a new company doing layoffs while building out a GCC each week.
So ask yourself - is it really AI displacing American workers?
TEXAS TOPPED CALIFORNIA IN GREEN CARD WORKER APPROVALS LAST QUARTER
Q2 2026, USCIS approved 5,999 employment-based I-140 petitions for workers in Texas. California got 5,371.
Nationwide, petitions waiting for a decision rose to 203,204. USCIS has received 173,446 since October.

INFOSYS LISTED THE LEGAL MINIMUM WAGE ON 99.5% OF ITS H-1B FILINGS
Luckey said what most tech executives won't.
In FY2026, Infosys got 4,595 certified H-1B filings. On 4,572 of them, the listed wage matched the lowest pay the law allows for the job.
Immigration policy must be driven by the present, not the past, and business leaders are too terrified of the left AND the right to acknowledge this.
Recent H1B discourse revolves around a longstanding immigration sleight-of-hand. H1B proponents point to exceptional people who came here decades ago as if they represent the current state of the program in the same way that advocates for low-skill/illegal immigration point to very favorable immigrant crime/welfare/education/etc statistics that do, in truth, have them beating native-born Americans on many fronts.
It is all a sham. The world that created those statistics, people, and businesses no longer exists. Brilliant but desperate Vietnamese fathers who fled communism have nothing in common with young men from Honduras, and the crime rates/economic acccomplishments/integration of the former should not be used to justify mass migration of the latter.
Nor should the accomplishments of people who managed to get an H1B visa in the 90s (when the program was capped to just 65,000 visas) be used to justify staffing agencies and tech companies using the program to replace American jobs for less money. The obvious abuse going on is politically suicidal and something that even the most ardent supporters of the visa should want to crack down on, no immigration program can possibly survive the obvious and widely known reality of what is going on. I am a longtime outspoken advocate for stealing the best people from other countries to make our own better, runaway abuse of existing programs robs the government of the worker trust required to do so.
Lots of people in the tech space know this. Even the dumb people are smart enough to see it. Nobody actually believes these are all incredible people with unique talents performing jobs no American can. Everyone knows the guy in Cubicle Bay 7 doing mediocre but functional web design for half the salary of his American peers is no savant and doesn't meet the statutory requirements for his H-1B visa.
Unfortunately, most people with power or profile are terrified that any public statement or acknowledgement will get them attacked by the right (You guys have been screwing over American workers for years with visa abuse, you damn hypocrite!) or the left (You are racist, sexist, misogynist, and sucking up to this fascist administration!). Or, more likely, both. I know too many tech execs in particular who feel trapped, like the only winning move is to stay silent.
JD is blowing the whole thing wide open by putting facts and stats front and center that nobody wants to engage with. Critics will talk about anything and everything else but these damning facts and this obvious truth, that H1B visas serve neither their original purpose, legal purpose, invented purpose, or the American people.
COMCAST LAYOFFS
Comcast Cable Communications got 331 certified H-1B filings from October 2025 to June 2026, per Labor Department data. Software developers were the biggest group at 192.
If these cuts land in engineering, those filings deserve a hard look.
Comcast is planning a significant number of job cuts as part of an overall restructuring of its cable-TV, broadband and wireless businesses, according to people familiar with the company’s thinking bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
BARCLAYS SAYS AI MEANS IT NEEDS FEWER DEVELOPERS - CUTS 5,000 JOBS
The bank plans to cut about 5,000 jobs, roughly 5% of its 93,000 staff. Its CFO said about 60% of the cuts fall on support functions, "including fewer developers as AI makes our people more productive."
Pre-tax profit rose 12% last quarter to £2.3 billion. It also announced a £500 million buyback.
Its US units still got 640 H-1B filings from October 2025 to June 2026. Of those, 256 were for software developers.
A bank that needs fewer developers should explain why it still files for them.

AUTOMATTIC, THE COMPANY BEHIND WORDPRESS.COM AND TUMBLR, HAS STARTED LAYOFFS
TechCrunch says the cuts have hit communications, social, WordPress.com and the VIP enterprise business over at least the past week.
Its director of communications posted on LinkedIn that the role had been "eliminated."
This follows September's failed board attempt to oust CEO Matt Mullenweg. Both the CFO and the interim CFO have since left.
The CEO calls the cuts normal. A company with 1,397 staff can say how many it let go.
