Pages of the Glorious Qur’ān today Wednesday 28/10/26, Sūrah Fātir (35): 19-38, tafakkur verse 35: 37 Theme: Spend every moment of this life like it is your last وَهُمْ يَصْطَرِخُونَ فِيهَا رَبَّنَا أَخْرِجْنَا نَعْمَلْ صَالِحًا غَيْرَ الَّذِي كُنَّا نَعْمَلُ ۚ أَوَلَمْ نُعَمِّرْكُم مَّا يَتَذَكَّرُ فِيهِ مَن تَذَكَّرَ وَجَاءَكُمُ النَّذِيرُ ۖ فَذُوقُوا فَمَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ مِن نَّصِيرٍ “And they will cry out therein, ‘Our Lord, remove us; we will do righteousness, other than what we used to do!’ But did We not grant you life enough for whoever would remember therein to remember, and the warner had come to you? So taste \[the punishment\], for the wrongdoers have no helper.” LESSONS: 1. The people of Hell will beg Allah to return them to worldly life so they can perform righteous deeds. They will finally recognise the value of obedience, repentance and good works, but the time for action will have ended. We must not postpone righteousness until tomorrow, for tomorrow is never guaranteed. 2. Allah reminds humanity that sufficient time was granted for reflection and correction. Every additional day is an opportunity to repent, reconcile with others, increase in good deeds and prepare for the Hereafter. The question is not merely how long we live, but how well we use the life Allah has given us. 3. Allah affirms in the verse mentions that a warner came to the people. This is understood in the context of the warnings and reminders Allah sends through His messengers and the guidance they convey. Knowledge of the truth carries a responsibility to respond to it. We should therefore take sincere admonition seriously rather than continually finding excuses to ignore it. 4. People who wasted their lives and died without faith or as wrongdoers shall plead for a second chsnce so they could live and die as believers. However, that is no longer possible after death. Their promise to do good comes only after the opportunity to act has passed. This teaches us to translate our intentions into deeds now: establish our prayers, uphold justice, honour our obligations, help those in need and seek forgiveness for our shortcomings. 5. Allah concludes the verse by declaring that the wrongdoers will have no helper against Allah's punishment. It is a sobering reminder that wealth, status, influence and human connections cannot substitute for faith and righteous conduct. We should seek Allah's mercy while we still have the opportunity to repent and reform. اللَّهُمَّ أَحْسِنْ خَاتِمَتَنَا، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي أَعْمَارِنَا، وَوَفِّقْنَا لِلتَّوْبَةِ الصَّادِقَةِ وَالْعَمَلِ الصَّالِحِ قَبْلَ فَوَاتِ الْأَوَانِ، وَلَا تَجْعَلْنَا مِنَ النَّادِمِينَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ، وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ. O Allah, grant us a beautiful end, bless us in our lifespans, and enable us to engage in sincere repentance and righteous deeds before it is too late. Do not make us among those who will regret their deeds on the Day of Resurrection. Protect us from the punishment of the Fire through Your mercy, O Most Merciful of those who show mercy. Āmīn. May Allah make our remaining days better than our past, forgive our shortcomings and grant us the ability to meet Him while He is pleased with us. Āmīn.
