This take feels really odd to me because it acts like the works themselves don't care about the sport("focus of the SHOW+fandom"). All the interpersonal drama in these shows are connected to the sport itself, working hard, being in a team environment and etc...

I read that guy's full response about sports anime and he just REALLY cares about sports and wants the intricacies/rules/playing of the sport to be the focus of the show+fandom. Not to be rude but can't he just watch regular sports 😬

A lot of these people are sounding like the ones who go "unlike other mecha, this one is about the characters!" except they act like the sport doesn't matter at all and is almost a hindrance.

People try to discredit caring for the sport because a lot of these works got freaks of nature or special abilities, but this just showcases that the authors care. They are keenly aware of the appeal of a certain sport and know how to enhance the entertainment factor even more.
