Saw a second grader drawing today and asked what he was making. "It's a mindflayer. It's from Stranger Things, my favorite show. I've watched it since I was 5." I really want this to be a lie, but I doubt it is. Please parent, parents.

I use the song "Prayer of the Refugee" by @riseagainst in my classroom as part of our practice with tone and figurative language, as well as for comparing to other texts about and by refugees. This year, a student gifted me a copy signed by lead singer Tim McIlrath. So cool!

My daughter chose to read this book tonight, and I guess because the debate was fresh in my mind I finally made the connection. A couple quick changes on the cover (leave the orange color and small hands, of course) and this is a presidential biography. #Debates2020 #mrcontrary
