Gold is trading at another record high this morning, consistent with the market’s’ main takeaway from yesterday’s Federal Reserve meeting — that is, the world’s most powerful central bank seems willing to tolerate higher inflation for longer. #economy #centralbanks #markets #gold

Federal debt is up $100 billion in just 4 days. We're on track for $37 trillion by the end of this year. And $40 trillion by the end of next. Now a prominent Wharton professor is warning of a "meltdown" as early as 2025 as debt swamps financial markets.

FT: Bad loans exceed loss reserves at the top US banks as Commercial Real Estate disaster spreads. In the past year, reserves again bad loans have gone from $1.60 on the dollar to just 90 cents. At Bank of America -- the second biggest in the country -- they're just 60 cents. American banks hold $560 billion in commercial real estate loans. And they make up 1/3 of the assets at regional banks. Meaning yet more bank crashes -- and yet more taxpayer bailouts.

The "Buffett indicator" - the ratio of the market value of the entire stock market to GDP, has historically averaged around 65%. The ratio peaked at 88.3 prior to the 1929 crash. At the peak of the dot.com bubble the ratio was 136.9%. Currently the ratio is 185%.

34 months into "transitory" inflation, it's actually going up. Fresh CPI numbers came in at an annualized 3.7% last month. Compared to 2.8% the previous month, 1.9% the month before that, and under 1% back in October. Spot the trend. This keeps pressure on failing banks. Worse, it raises the prospect of a 1970's-style stagflation that could last for years.

“Okay, but what does that have to do with the Federal Reserve and money printing?” “I am just coming to that. You said you wanted a serious conversation, not a talk show. You see in the beginning of the Roman Empire, their coinage was pure gold and silver and their empire was prosperous. Then, Diocletian the corrupt, rose to power and polluted their pure currency...”

This is the most important chart to understand for America's future, both economically and politically. The federal budget will go out of control even if we have no wars or recessions for the next 30 years. We felt the consequences of the huge deficit spending spike in 2020: -The worst inflation wave in four decades, leaving typical households worse off today than they were five years ago. -Interest rate hikes that have put a family home out of reach for young couples across the country, not just in coastal cities. That means fewer children, dimming the nation's future. -Interest rates have also made payments to cover the national debt surge to the highest levels (relative to the economy) in generations. This will be an anchor around our feet. We're set to have larger and larger deficits as federal spending grows on autopilot every year. That means more inflationary pressure, keeping the cost of living high and making it harder to bring interest rates down. The problem isn't a lack of revenue, but the relentless growth of government. Congress has refused to do real budgeting for too long. America can't afford for its leaders to sleepwalk their way to a national bankruptcy. It's time to get serious...

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen says the U.S. will "borrow $760 billion in the first quarter". On pace for $3 trillion per year. Her current numbers are not even considering the impact of a recession. If so, the numbers will be worse. 🔊

"There is an infinite amount of cash" is equivalent to saying the US dollar will go to zero, it's just a matter of time 🫡
Why the Fed's Kashkari is confident in the USD network: "There is an infinite amount of cash at the Federal Reserve" Why he isn't confident in the bitcoin network: "Americans aren't using it to buy sandwiches... it has no utility in the real world."

Tens of millions of Americans "Doom Spending" their way to oblivion -- one in four. Especially the young, who are apparently giving up on buying a house or starting a family and taking cruises instead. The gutting of the Middle Class has been going on for 25 years now -- ever since the Fed replaced the real economy with money printers. It's now accelerating.

People don’t believe government inflation statistics. And they’ve got the grocery receipts to prove it. Media laughs, but it turns out the widely-respected “Big Mac Index” says inflation has been almost twice the official government numbers for at least 20 years. That means we’re a lot poorer than we thought, and getting poorer.

Elderly homeless soaring, going from 11% in the 1990’s to 37% by 2003 and now roughly half of all new homeless. What’s destroying seniors is a toxic cocktail of government fiascos: 1. Recessions destroyed their life savings. 2. Record high housing costs exceed social security. 3. Landlords are afraid to rent to modest incomes after the Covid rent moratoria. 4. Ludicrous medical costs, including nursing homes that cost $115,000. Finally, broken families -- encouraged by welfare policies and Hollywood -- that gut the last safety net. Seniors are left in a world where any trauma can send them over the edge. First to live in the car. Then to live on the street.
