Good reminder. You don't have to pick one format for everyone.
A <picture> tag can serve JXL to browsers that support it, while crawlers and link previews still get AVIF, WebP or JPEG.
Thinking of switching your images to JPEG XL? Google Images and Discover don't support it yet.
Use WebP or AVIF with a fallback, and keep Open Graph images in JPEG, PNG or WebP.
Supported formats and a safe setup:

The JPEG Trust Summit is next week in London (Nov 12–13).
It's the ISO standard (21617) for proving where a photo came from and how it was edited.
My take: the standard isn't the hard part. Many sites strip metadata on upload, so the proof is lost.
Should platforms keep it?
Upload form keeps saying "image too large"?
Here's a simple fix: resize it to the width they ask for, right in your browser.
This 2400×3614 photo went from 1.9 MB to 629 KB at 1080 px wide, in seconds, with Convertlo's Image Resizer.

A huge PDF is sometimes a font problem, not an image problem.
PD4ML's Nov 1 release notes: embedding a 15 MB CJK font as a subset (only the characters used) turns a 23 MB PDF into a few hundred KB.
PDF too big to email? Check fonts before you crush the photos.
Transparent recompression is an underrated idea: store it smaller, get the original back byte-for-byte.
JPEG XL does the same for old JPEGs. Good to see it tried on whole archives.
I've recently released Aqueous lifthrasiir.github.io/aqueou… , a next-generation archive file format designed around speedy and transparent recompression. While the concept was well understood among data compression experts, it wasn't widespread enough... hopefully until now.
JPEG XL is now in Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Is AVIF done? Not yet.
Jake Archibald's benchmark:
- Web photos: AVIF usually smaller
- Screenshots/transparency: AVIF by a lot
- Old JPEGs: JXL shrinks them 9–20%, no extra loss
My take: AVIF for the web, JXL for archives. Agree?
Google just turned Gemini into a file editor.
Since Oct 29 you can generate, preview and edit PDFs, Docs, Sheets and slide decks right inside the chat. PDFs work on web and mobile, the rest on web for now.
The chat window is becoming the document. Would you edit a PDF there?
Need a product photo on a clean background, but don't have Photoshop?
Here's a simple fix: drop the photo into Convertlo's Remove Background tool.
It cuts out the subject in seconds, right in your browser. No signup, no watermark, free.

HEIF (the format behind iPhone .HEIC photos) is a container, not a codec.
Nokia's team says new work adds VVC/H.266 support and a lightweight variant for icons and thumbnails.
Why it matters: better codecs can slot in without rebuilding your photo workflow.
Bank statements are the top target for AI-faked documents: 23.7% of AI-generated flags in Inscribe's 2026 data, which says the visual tells are mostly gone. When a lender asks, send the original PDF, not a screenshot. inscribe.ai/reports/2026-doc… #fraud #banking
Big GIF? Turn it into an MP4. Video codecs handle motion far better than GIF, so the clip usually gets much smaller and plays smoother. Free, up to 50 MB, no signup, no watermark, and it stays in your browser. convertlo.pro/gif-to-mp4.htm… #GIF #video
Resumes: PDF or DOCX? PDF keeps your layout exactly as you made it. DOCX is easy to edit, and some recruiters and job portals ask for it. Our rule: send what the job post asks for. If it says nothing, PDF. Which do you send? #resume #jobsearch
Still serving WOFF fonts? W3C's evaluation found WOFF2 about 24% smaller than WOFF 1.0 (median, Google Fonts), about 27% on Adobe TrueType fonts and about 13.5% on CFF fonts. Smaller fonts, faster pages. w3.org/TR/WOFF20ER/ #webfonts #webperf
Do you watermark photos you post online? A small corner mark is easy to crop out. A big one across the middle protects more but ruins the picture. Our take: a subtle mark plus your name in the caption. What do you do? #photography #watermark
IPTC checked 6,580 news photos. Only 27 carried C2PA Content Credentials, nearly all signed by AI or design tools, none by a camera. Most lose the photographer's credit on the way to you. Strip metadata or keep it? iptc.org/news/announcing-ipt… #C2PA #metadata

Why does your iPhone save HEIC? Apple says it keeps JPEG-level quality in less space, about 2x compression on average (WWDC17). Need JPEGs? Settings > Camera > Formats > Most Compatible. developer.apple.com/videos/p… support.apple.com/en-us/1169… #HEIC #iPhone
A 46 KB PDF with no macros or JavaScript passed the scanners. Just opening it sent the browser to a phishing page via OpenAction, a standard PDF feature. If a PDF opens a tab by itself, close it. Don't log in. ironscales.com/threat-intell… #infosec #PDF
