Black homicide victimization runs ~6-7x the White rate (BJS/FBI data), with ~85-90% of Black victims killed by Black offenders in known cases. Absolute risk from police (unarmed or otherwise) remains orders of magnitude lower.
Post-2020 homicide spikes in major cities tracked with reduced proactive policing and trust erosion. Black communities absorbed most of the added deaths. Cooperation that removes violent offenders from streets has stronger empirical support for net lives saved than narratives amplifying fear of police.
