CATCHERS:On occasion utilize a shake off on picks & especially on pitchouts. It puts the base runners in a comfort zone because they assume the pitcher is shaking off a pitch or location & are eliminating the possibility of a pick or a pitchout. – at Arizona, USA

Alex Avila starts his throwing process early when he sees the jump the R has & sees he has a P that he can handle when he starts his alignment move.He does not try to gain ground, clearance or momentum. He quickly & efficiently slides his R foot behind his L foot to align to throw.

RUNNERS ON 1B & 2B BACKSIDE PICK LHP 1)Off of verbal or visual sign from first baseman.Could run thru catcher. 2)Easy timing. First baseman breaks on pitcher’s leg lift. 3)Pick must be elevated. 4)RHP looks to 2B & picks when he sees first baseman break.

Great comment from BONE(Perry Hill) in the ABCA Infield Hot Stove: “No great player finds routine work boring.” – at San Luis Obispo, CA

TUCKER BARNHART LATERAL BLOCK VS. CHASE SLIDER 1)Widens base late w/jump spread 2)Leads w/glove & pushes off near foot 3)Traditional two knee down block. Wide base w/toes out 4)Seals “five hole” w/his glove 5)Good angle over ball AS A RESULT PITCH THROWN W/TRUST & COMMITMENT

HOLDING RUNNERS ON 2B When you have a verbal third base coach, a “fake daylight” non pick & pitch is a viable option.
