We expect educators to provide students with a selection of texts to study. Consistently centering one or two authors as required reading by all students contributes to silencing diverse and provocative voices in the interest of preserving the status quo.

Recent reports that the OCDSB has banned or removed certain books are not true. We encourage students to engage with a broad variety of texts and authors in order to become critical consumers of media and text. Learners deserve to be challenged with a variety of perspectives.
