UN Human Rights Chief @volker_turk voices his horror at the loss of civilian life after Israeli air strikes hit a #Rafah camp where displaced people were sheltering. Israel must cease its military offensive in Rafah. All parties to the conflict must put in place a ceasefire.

REACTION: Just 3 days ago, the world’s court @CIJ_ICJ ordered #Israel to immediately halt its offensive on #Rafah. Last night, Israeli airstrikes hit tents killing at least 40 Palestinians in Rafah. People sheltering by a UN warehouse were burned alive, where they thought they would be safe. The UK is complicit in this catastrophe as it continues to arm Israel. The UK must immediately ensure Israel ceases its attacks and stops fuelling the killing and starvation by halting arms sales now. #CeasefireNOW

I repeat my call for a humanitarian ceasefire in the Middle East, the unconditional release of all hostages, and the delivery of life-saving supplies at the scale needed. Everyone must assume their responsibilities. This is a moment of truth. History will judge us all.

As we are on the verge of the abyss in the Middle East, I have two humanitarian appeals: To Hamas, the hostages must be immediately released without conditions. To Israel, rapid & unimpeded access for humanitarian aid must be granted for the sake of the civilians in Gaza.

Abolish the monarchy, not the right to protest As we speak the whole core team of Republic is still being detained. We are not given a reason. They will probably be released when the whole monarchy pr-show is over. #NotMyKing #AbolishTheMonarchy

What we’re seeing is that “the BBC” isn’t Richard Sharp, Robbie Gibb and Tim Davie, the Tory plants. It’s the people who actually work there, creating programmes, working at every level, and who feel themselves to be the heirs of the best of its traditions. All power to them.

Let’s not bash @BBC as a whole. Yes, criticise these appalling moves. Yes, demand impartiality. Yes, shout down Tory takeover. But the solidarity of its staff shows how great the BBC can be. We must save that. Not play into rhetoric that it’s not fit for purpose. #ImWithGary

The fossil fuel industry is feasting on subsidies & windfall profits while household budgets shrink & our planet burns. We need to hold the industry and its enablers to account. At #UNGA, I call on all developed economies to tax the windfall profits of fossil fuel companies.

The UN has today released its latest assessment on Somalia and finds that it is not- yet- in famine. But it says that without a stepped-up aid effort two districts WILL be in famine by December. Starvation, death, disaster. theguardian.com/global-devel…
