No Muslim-majority country has dropped a nuclear bomb. Fine. But does that mean Muslim-majority countries or groups operating in their name have never committed atrocities?
Saudi Arabia's role in the war in Yemen. The Taliban denying girls education. ISIS massacring Yazidis, enslaving their women and girls, and committing genocide against them.
These are not Western propaganda. These are real people who have suffered real brutality.
I'm a Muslim, and I will defend Muslims against collective blame. But I will never use that defence to cover up evil committed in the name of Islam.
The fact that someone has never dropped a nuclear bomb does not make them innocent of other atrocities. And the fact that someone commits atrocities in the name of Islam does not make every Muslim guilty.
Why is it so difficult for us to acknowledge both truths?
No Muslim-majority country has ever dropped a nuclear bomb. Yet Islam is constantly branded violent. Why is violence associated with an entire religion when history tells a much more complicated story?
