Just remembered this post again since I was prepping food for my sister. Potstickers/dumplings! Steamed or even air fried so less oil and hands off, easy to make big batches and pretty cheap since ground meat is the cheapest meat. There's also veggie only recipes too!

You can also make small riceballs, filling is pretty much whatever you want so it can be pretty healthy. Fruits are a bit pricey in Japan I think? But those are usually good if you can find cheap ones that are in season!
