Why are we allowing the wealthy to be comfortable while we struggle?

Much love to Alex Pretti and Renee Good—but remember—ICE has killed 9 people in 2026. You know the names of the 2 white people they've killed. ICE has also killed a Black man named Keith Porter, a Cambodian named Parady La, and five Latinos named Heber Sanchaz Domínguez, Victor Manuel Diaz, Luis Beltran Yanez-Cruz, Luis Gustavo Nunez Caceres, and Geraldo Lunas Campos. ICE is on pace to kill more than 100 people this year. Abolish ICE. Impeach Noem. Prosecute those who committed these crimes.

Anyone on the left who speaks of "woke" derisively is a right winger.

The bottom line: A COVID relief program meant to save struggling arts venues became a windfall for wealthy musicians. They spent millions in taxpayer money on luxury hotels, private jets, parties & million-dollar bonuses to themselves. Full story here: businessinsider.com/lil-wayn…

🇺🇸 Democrats spent 4 years desperately trying to get "moderate" Republicans to break from Trump. The result? 94% of Republicans voted Trump - exactly the same as in 2020, while Democrat vote dropped. (Via @CNN)

ELECTION DAY STRIKE: We are back out on the picket line today. We know this is a hard day to be on strike for our members but we want to be clear: We are here because of the decisions of @NYTimes management.

Conspiracy theorists who keep saying there’s “no way” the hurricane could have intensified so much without some human cause are so close to getting it.

Again, I’m gonna keep pointing this out. More and more I grow resentful of crime data (eg theft stats broken down by race) because stuff like this isn’t included. Wage theft isn’t included. Crime committed by corporations does greater harm but it’s always sanitized.

We can argue about systems and theories all we like, but at some point our political differences could probably be quite neatly summarised by "are you more likely to hold an umbrella over another person or mock someone for doing that"
2019 - running to be leader of the world's 6th largest economy 2024 - holding an umbrella so Owen Jones doesn't get his skin-tight chinos wet

Here is the final paragraph of a letter to the editor that Steve Albini wrote to the Chicago Reader in 1994. It was directed towards a critic who wrote a year-end recap. King.

It will take the earth thousands if not millions of years to fill these important niches these birds occupied. What a horrible tragedy that is capitalism and settler colonialism.

I am glad this moment is radicalizing you, waking you up to the fact that you don't live in a democracy and that neither your press nor your speech are free. But never forget that those 20,000 Palestinians didn't want to die to wake you up, they should have been allowed to live.

DIY is only about what you give and not what you get. It’s about being a part of a community that helps each other regardless of getting anything in return. Has nothing to do with labels, agents, etc. You stop being a DIY band when you stop being willing to help.
DIY is such a general term, i'm curious: in your opinion, when does a band stop being a "DIY band?" is it when they get a booking agent, manager? when they're too big to play basement shows? is it the size of the band or the ethic?
