Do you know how the #greenseaturtle got its name? Here's a clue- it's related to what they eat! The #seagrass & #algae they eat actually turns their fat #green, giving them their name- isn’t that cool? 📸 : @localoceanco & Buluu Poppy #ANGARIDeepDive

Today I was at @LocalOceanCo with Dr. Faraj. A turtle had swallowed a hook but was saved and brought to the trust. X ray imaging was done, the turtle anaesthetised and the hook surgically removed. Here are some photos. Magdalina is recovering❤️. @vetmed_unsa

We’ve got a beautiful picture of a green sea turtle enjoying some lunch for #TurtleTuesday! Did you know the green turtle is the only sea turtle that is a strict herbivore? It loves to snack on seagrass & algae. #seaturtle #greenseaturtle #seagrass #algae Photo: @BethanyHoltz

Did you know that a sea turtle's facial scales are unique, much like our fingerprints? This is why, while attempting to identify and record turtles using Photo-ID, our biologists ensure that they capture the sides of a turtle's face! #SeaTurtleResearch

Did you know that some species of sea turtles nest in large groups called arribadas? These groups can be anywhere from several hundred to several THOUSAND turtles laying nests at the same time! Reply below if you know which two sea turtles species can do this? #FunFactFriday

Hawksbill #Turtles very sharp beak is perfect to find food in #reef crevices & resembles the one of a hawk (hence the name). Hawksbills use 1 of 3 techniques to obtain food: 🐢They lift their head to shift substrate 🐢 Use their flippers to rip apart substrate 🐢 Beak crushing

Did you know #corals & #jellyfish are "cousins"? Corals aren't those rocky tree-like structures you think of—those are thousands of hardened shells built up like little apartments. Inside these colonies are tiny animals with frond-like legs surrounding a mouth— like a jellyfish.

Do sea turtles make a sound? 🗣 Although #SeaTurtles do not have vocal cords and internal ears, scientists have discovered that green sea turtles actually make certain sounds that can be detected both in water and on land! #SeaTurtleFacts
