In 1986 a guy got kicked out of every casino in Vegas for counting cards. So he flew to Hong Kong with $180,000 and started betting on horses instead. He walked away with almost $900 million.
It's Bill Benter. He figured horse racing was just another counting problem. Same math, more moving parts.
He and a partner showed up with $180k and a computer. Benter spent years teaching that computer to guess one thing, the real chance each horse had to win. If his number was better than the odds the bookies gave, he bet. If not, he skipped it.
That's the whole trick. Expected value.
EV = p · b − (1 − p)
Only bet when your win chance p, at odds b, is worth more than your chance of losing.

Watching this Fiesta Bowl/semi-final game on @espn in 4k. No commercials, just silence and a shot of the field in breaks. As a viewer, I don't mind not getting the ads. As a media lifer, I'm hoping the advertisers knew going in that they wouldn't be seen on the 4k telecast.

Now today watching @THEPLAYERS in 4k, I don't know if it's @NBCSports or @YouTubeTV that has the issue but the audio is almost a full second ahead of the video. Not that way on regular HD.
Is it @YouTubeTV or @NBCSports that had the 4k broadcast of @THEPLAYERS looking pale compared to the standard HD telecast? Or is it me and I'm just not used to golf in 4k?
Too bad I can't get a dozen overtimes for Texas v Houston on @CBSSports so the golf can remain on @GolfChannel because now I'm going to have to watch the @PGATOUR on my terribly, over compressed, shit picture on @iowasnewsnow. Fix this!

Maybe this is a @CBSSports problem or local @iowasnewsnow problem, but the picture for this HUGE football game sucks! It looks like it's shot on film, nothing smooth about live action at all, it's jumpy. It's garbage! Watching on a 50" 4k TV using OTA antenna. Should be clean!
