Bret Easton Ellis on The Perfume Nationalist: A Cultural History Through Perfume, Media & Resistance by Jack Mason
When are we going to start acknowledging that there is a non-insignificant percentage of those who pushed back against ‘woke-ism’ and ‘cancel culture’ that now, through their actions and behaviors, are signaling they miss it? Maybe even crave it.
Could be that they don’t have as clear of a sense of self without it. Stepping away from a toxic relationship, you can grow accustomed to a certain degree of insidiousness and turmoil and suddenly feel bored without the presence of those things. Is it a better life to have the liberties you wanted or to lose so you can “break the rules”, make fun, and complain?

It's hard to leave a cult

Why don't they just leave NYC? I'm not trying to be callous, but there's a whole wonderful world out there that's more affordable.

Intersting trend that People’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ the last 4-5 years have been actors who would’ve been better suited to receive it 20 years ago.

I’ve been saying this for a while but anything made for teenage boys that outstays its welcome becomes this way. south park, always sunny, half of the brands you can find at Tilly’s, its all for 31 year old women who love saying “my dude” now
Somehow, the biggest and most embarrassing villains in the entire story turned out to be the parasocial h3h3 fan base
This is the photo Ethan posted of Hila hours after she gave birth to his kid. She was still in the hospital bed, smiling, holding their newborn, and he put it on the timeline like a proud husband.
Seven years later he spent six months cheating on the same woman, lying to her face, gaslighting her from “just a kiss” to a full affair, and doing it while she still showed up to the show they built together.
She gave him three children, carried the brand, and stood by that ugly mug for two decades. He still looked at this and decided it wasn’t enough. Hila didn’t just lose a husband. She got betrayed by the man who posted this and then spent half a year destroying the family in it.

I'm sorry but it doesn't stand to reason that if you tell a kid they should give grandma a hug that they'll have no defense if someone else tries to molest them, this is fucking insane thinking
Imagine this counterfactual:
A child is made to hug family members at every gathering
Sometimes they like hugs, sometimes they don't
But when they say no, the adults laugh it off and make them give a hug anyway
The child now internalises that their protests are meaningless
And family members can just grab them whenever and they just have to accept it
So imagine, god forbid, what happens if a family member tells the child about giving a "secret hug"
If the child is used to their words being ignored, are they now more or less likely to say no and protest?

For the first time, the future of my film studio, KILL THE LION FILMS, is uncertain.
After 15 years and 35 feature-length films (plus a television series) I have never once been unprofitable, never not at least broken even. My track record is insane and impeccable, especially for what is essentially a one-man operation.
However, personal setbacks and tragedies have led to the fact that (and this is very difficult for me to say publicly) it's looking like I will be homeless come February 1st.
I'm currently in the process of having to sell off not just the vast majority of what I own, but the vast majority of what my family owns. I have a few months to find a living situation for my elderly father to live out his remaining days, and also a living situation for myself.
I've lived in NYC all my life, but at this point, I will live anywhere that will have me and where I will be able to continue pushing film forward. And although I've gotten by for 15 years on my own and through donations from fans, it's very clear now that I need some sort of financial partner for my film studio in order for it to continue forward.
If you would like to do business with me, or be partners with me, now is the time to reach out. You will be saving my life, and the life of my studio, and ensuring that hundreds of films are able to exist.
If you don't want to be that involved, but still want to help out, head on over to killthelionfilms.com and make a donation of any amount.
I am a necessary and important figure in the space of truly independent filmmaking (hell, I even coined the term and even wrote the book on it). For me to be homeless and penniless would be an L for all of us. I've been doing all I can to make sure that doesn't happen, but I can only do so much, and what I'm doing does not seem to be enough. I need your help.
