Ethiopia and UK Reaffirm Strategic Partnership at IMF–World Bank Meetings in Bangkok
The Ethiopian delegation met with Kirsty McNeill MP, the UK’s Minister for International Development and Africa, on the sidelines of the 2026 IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings.
The discussions focused on recent economic developments, and the country’s priorities for sustaining macroeconomic stability and long-term growth.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange views on current regional and global developments. Ms. McNeill acknowledged Ethiopia’s principled efforts and reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to continued bilateral cooperation, recognizing Ethiopia’s strategic importance in promoting regional stability and development.
Both sides expressed their commitment to maintaining constructive engagement and strengthening cooperation on areas of mutual interest.

My condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
Humanitarian workers must be allowed to carry out their life saving work without fear.

The UK is greatly concerned by the escalating tensions between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Congratulations to Project Harar on 25 remarkable years helping children suffering from congenital birth defects.
Over 13,500 families supported across Ethiopia.
Over 13,000 healthcare workers trained.

I am horrified by the death of 139 #migrants, including 15 children, many #Ethiopian, in a boat which capsized in the Red Sea.
Once again people smugglers don’t care about the lives of those they traffic.
🇬🇧 is working with 🇪🇹 to go after the gangs exploiting desperate people.
At least 109 migrants, including 15 children, have died and over 116 remain missing after a boat capsized off #Djibouti.
IOM is assisting survivors as search and rescue operations continue.
