Already looking forward to this! A great opportunity to recognise and celebrate social work and young people supported by social workers. Who would you nominate? Time to start thinking before nominations open in January...
The Frontline Awards is back for its second year in 2024! We are more excited than ever to celebrate fantastic social workers across the country and most importantly the young people they support. Nominations open in January! thefrontline.org.uk/who-we-a…

At 13 I went into care. At 16 I was kicked out of care & went back to an unstable situation. At 18 I studied law at uni. At 25 I was called to the Bar. At 26 I secured Pupillage. In interviews, I took pride in who I am & where I come from. It’s what formed the advocate within me.

A truly inspiring day with @TheCareLeaders. So much experience and insight in one room! Really excited about our partnership, and the strength that comes from bringing together diverse perspectives.
Doing good things, with good people for good causes that put children first. Great day generating ideas and galvanising energy with @FrontlineSW. #Allyship

10 yrs ago I left teaching to set up @FrontlineSW to get thousands more children access to a great social worker and to build a network of leaders for change. Special to see so many staff, supporters, alumni and care leavers at the 10 yr anniversary who’ve made it a reality!

I think one of the subtler ways #CareExperienced people can be stigmatised is via pity. I’ve experienced it before (in my profession too). Pity isn’t compassion. It’s a voice of prejudice involving looking down on someone. We are your equals, please engage with us as such 🙏🏼

Childhood in care raises risk of entering English youth justice system eightfold. New study reveals 33% of care-experienced children received a youth justice caution or conviction, compared with 4% of those without care experience. theguardian.com/society/2023…

Replying to @Luke_Rodgers
I think it needs looking at in depth & research based! Also keen to see the impact of other protected characteristics before making the argument for CE to be added!

There’s a lot of mixed reviews on the Joe Swash documentary. Here’s my hot takes (after spending nearly a decade trying to reform social care):

This Children and Young People Now article focuses on my take on why the campaign to make care experience a protected characteristic is so important. Thank you to ⁦@cypnow⁩ for reporting on this! cypnow.co.uk/news/article/ta…

Great to speak today about The Family Business and what more we can do to get the right opportunities for care leavers. Suffolk are well on way with their Family Business Skills Academy for care leavers - sustained support from getting the job and keeping it. Well done Suffolk.
