SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

In 2024, Nintendo declared war on emulators.
March 4. Yuzu paid Nintendo $2.4 million, deleted its code, and handed over its domain.
October 1. Ryujinx got a phone call. The GitHub organization vanished overnight.
May 2024. Nintendo filed 8,535 DMCA takedowns to scrub Yuzu code from every fork.
By 2026, Nintendo has collected $6 million in emulator settlements.
Every major Switch emulator is dead.
But Nintendo has a problem. His name is Zurdi.
In March 2023, one year before the war started, he quietly built RomM.
RomM is not an emulator. It's a ROM manager. It scans your legally-dumped game files, pulls metadata from IGDB, MobyGames, and Screenscraper, fetches box art from SteamGridDB, and pulls your achievements from RetroAchievements.
Then it lets you play in your browser through EmulatorJS.
Nintendo's own top IP lawyer admitted on the record in January 2025 that this is legal. Emulators only become illegal when they bypass encryption. RomM doesn't. It just organizes what you already own.

Final Fantasy Resonance has sold through 400K copies (so no unsold retail copies!) across PS5 (48.8%), Steam (48.6%), and Xbox (2.6%) - @alineaanalytics estimates.
Resonance has generated $20M in revenue, with 55.3% of that via PlayStation, 41.6% on Steam, and 3.1% on Xbox.
Players love this one almost unanimously (you could say it’s really ... resonating with them), which is sadly becoming rare in today’s fandom. Resonance’s user reviews are sitting at 4.8/5 on PlayStation and Xbox, and the positive Steam user score is a whopping 97%, with even Chinese-language reviews hitting 95% (!!!).
After having spent about 10 hours with Resonance last weekend, I very much agree, and it’s making me very excited about the inevitable 2D-HD remake of my favourite game of all time, Chrono Trigger. I digress.
Given the strong positive reaction to – and early sales of – Resonance and last year’s Expedition 33 (which is tracking way better than recent Final Fantasy games), it's clear that Square Enix has left a significant chunk of JRPG players behind during their move towards more action-oriented Final Fantasy titles.
While Square chased more Western trends, a Western company swept in and released Expedition 33, a game JRPG fans wanted for decades and even won game of the year at The Game Awards. Square knows this, knows what it’s missed out on, and it’s seen Capcom succeed on Steam with its legacy franchises where Square Enix has arguably floundered.
So I can see Square Enix going down a new route, with many diverging paths, for Final Fantasy. They’ve already outlined their plans to go fully multiplatform, smartly moving away from timed PlayStation exclusivity.
I can also see the company balancing its MMO, high-fidelity remakes, and big-budget mainline Final Fantasy titles with more of these smaller 2D-HD original pixel games alongside the 2D-HD remakes.
There’s still a gap for a turn-based JRPG big-budget Final Fantasy, though, and all the signals are pointing Square Enix in that direction. Just a matter of time, I reckon.
And I’d take even more cues from Capcom, if I were them.

HE TERMINADO FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE....
52 horas después, con toda la historia principal completada, voy a decirlo sin rodeos:
No es solo EL MEJOR FINAL FANTASY de la historia. También es el mejor JRPG que he jugado.
Le duela a quien le duela.
Supera con creces a Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII, IX e incluso al X, que hasta ahora era mi favorito.
✅ LO MEJOR
1️⃣ Un sistema de combate por turnos brillante y superexigente en máxima dificultad.
2️⃣ Un sistema de builds complejo, con una profundidad propia de un CRPG. Las Visiones ofrecen una cantidad absurda de combinaciones.
3️⃣ Un worldbuilding espectacular, con un mundo que apetece explorar y conocer.
4️⃣ Personajes carismáticos del primero al último, tanto compañeros como villanos.
5️⃣ Contenido secundario a la altura del principal: buenas misiones, secretos y jefes adicionales que realmente merecen la pena.
6️⃣ Los jefes son, prácticamente todos, una auténtica LOCURA.
7️⃣ Y nada de niñas en lencería. Gracias.
⚠️ LO MEJORABLE
La historia tiene demasiados clichés propios del JRPG, pero cumple y consigue mantener el interés de principio a fin.
También hay demasiado farmeo. El juego te empuja a subir las Visiones, personajes de otros Final Fantasy, con cada integrante del grupo, y eso acaba devorando una cantidad de horas que no tienen valor real.
La banda sonora es muy buena, aunque termina resultando algo repetitiva.
❌ LO MALO
El final se queda algo corto en comparación con el resto de la historia. No es desastroso, pero esperaba un cierre mucho más contundente.
🏆 NOTA FINAL: 9/10
Mi GOTY de 2026, incluso por encima de Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
Final Fantasy Resonance no vive únicamente de la nostalgia: comprende todo lo que hizo grande a la saga y lo lleva todavía más lejos.
Ojalá este sea el camino que siga de ahora en adelante @SquareEnix
