If you need to see how far the left has fallen into a sewer of antisemitism, just look how they react towards a report written on the antisemitism Jewish schoolchildren experience in British schools. An appalling disgrace that no other community would be expected to tolerate.

Some of the examiner feedback from Edexcel was that students are not using scientific terminology consistently or correctly. Having gone through their GCSE word banks, the same words in the same context are given multiple definitions, so frankly it's hardly surprising.

All the definitions are correct, but they aren't consistent which means - particularly weaker students - are going to find it harder to recall efficiently.

I would find it really funny if NJD get a My Chemical Romance-themed "black parade" jersey, equally if NSH get a Tailor Swift-inspired one ("tailor"-made)

Forensic analysis here from @BodilUK
I found the Children's Commissioner's Childhood Lottery a frustrating read. I have no doubt more children have difficult childhoods in Middlesbrough than Surrey. But excluding obvious confounding factors and selecting on dependent variables is not a good way to make that case.🧵

The debate has now spread to two of my other classes and to my form group, so I think I might stir the pot a bit by showing them these two photos of 8-year-old me.
Today, one of my year 7s got increasingly worked up because he couldn't decide if I dyed my hair or not. His arguments were that "it was brown last year" and therefore dyed, but also that it matches my eyebrows and "who dyes their eyebrows"

We have a five-minute grace period at the start of lessons before a student can be marked late. Do you know what happens? Children - and their parents - argue they shouldn't be sanctioned when they're six minutes late because it's only one minute past the grace period.
🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham has announced changes to car parking fines - Drivers will have a 5-minute grace period to decide whether to park and 10 minutes to leave after a parking session ends - A £20 maximum charge on appeal for minor mistakes, such as entering the wrong number plate or not displaying a permit - Charges will also be cancelled on appeal for breakdowns, medical emergencies or broken ticket machines - The £100 cap on charges will remain - The rules will come into force as soon as possible and operators that break them will lose access to DVLA data

Apparently people are incapable of thinking for a sec: my school has five minute's grace for being late to class. The car parks will have 10 minute's grace for being late leaving the car park. Just because both tweets mention the number five, doesn't mean both fives are the same.

My next/current project is this subtle number. I have another sweater on the go too, but sleeves are boring so it's parked until I finish one panel of this vest.
I made another sweater vest. George was actively unhelpful.

When students are being assessed on their oracy skills, will we have to pretend using MLE is just as appropriate and makes you just as articulate as using standard British English like we did back in 2020/2021?

There's been a lot of talk in the last few weeks in edu circles about whether the trad education movement has failed, what it needs to do next, etc. This article is just the latest in a succession of examples that shows how us edu-trads have not been nearly as successful as we hoped in altering elite consensus on education. We have obviously seen with all the Labour party policies that we completely failed to convince Labour. But actually, it's not like we've really convinced the Conservatives either. This is Dan Hannan, major figure in Brexit, major figure in Conservative politics, presumably has some idea of who Michael Gove is - and here he is in the Telegraph confidently asserting that we no longer need to know things because we can look things up. (The ironies in this piece abound, by the way. He argues for lessons in spotting bad bogus arguments at the same time as building an article around the argument that memory doesn't matter any more. He argues that "identifying improbable claims" is a generic skill that can be taught in the abstract, at the same time as claiming that handwriting and geography are obsolete. He says that you can always just look up what you need, whilst signally failing to look up any of the evidence on the role of long-term memory...I could go on.) I wrote a few weeks ago that there was some evidence journalists at the Financial Times were waking up to all the evidence on cognitive science, its implications for schools, the international test evidence. But the elite understanding of this is a very thin layer, absolutely skin deep. The mass of second-hand dealers in ideas are still distilling their frenzy from Romantic pedagogy. Depressing. I honestly don't know what else we can do. We wrote the books. We had the debates. We built the schools. We aced the tests. And then it turned out nobody cared. Right now it is definitely a bleak time to be a trad. It feels like we are on Athelney Marshes, beset by vandals without and dissension within. BUT we have to keep the faith. Reality is an undefeated champion. Despair is a sin! What we do works! It may well be that for now, the New World with all its power & might etc., is going to have to step in to save our bacon for a bit. Maybe the momentum is shifting to @ehanford and Sold a Story, @rastokke and Chalk & Talk, @jettybe3 , etc. We have got to dig in. As Declan Rice said, it's not done!

On reflection, I will support this oracy revival if it stops children starting every sentence with "wait, so"
