View from patient room today on rounds. Headed into Portland fall sunrise season. Hard to beat! #OHSUhernia
Another successful @AmericanHernia course teaching surgeons about abdominal wall reconstruction and tissue based groin repairs! Thanks to @VNikolian and @DrJanaSacco for coordinating and elevating the education committee’s impact!
Favorite study presented thus far at @AmericanHernia — NO difference in incisional hernia at 3 years in RTL (8%) vs onlay prophylactic mesh (6%) groups. I preach about reinforced tension line use and you can see why! RTL is so easy. You should do it 👊🏽 prevent hernias!
Wonderful 2026 SAGES Fellow Career Development Course lead by Drs. Ivy Haskins and Shanley Deal! The course is for the fellows but I certainly always take away so many career pearls from the terrific faculty @SAGES_Updates

Celebrated our fellow, Dr. Sandoval, on a beautiful PNW summer night! She’s off to close big holes in New Mexico. It’s been a priviledge! #OHSUhernia
I agree with many of these sentiments but I think we are beyond the identification of the problem. Now we need practical steps to ensure competency open, lap and robotic.. can’t rely on good will alone. Surgical educators have a big task at hand
As robotic surgery becomes increasingly dominant, maintaining competency in laparoscopy remains essential for surgical training, patient care, and settings where robotic technology is unavailable. journals.lww.com/annalsofsur…

PORTLAND LOVES WOMEN'S SPORTS
What a fantastic turnout for our doubleheader! Fans showed up and showed out for our matchup with the Indiana Fever and the @ThornsFC vs the Utah Royals today!

NOT IN OUR HOUSE 😤🌹
We have not allowed a goal at home in 568 regular-season minutes, now owning the league’s longest home shutout streak.

This was so fun to watch. Absolutely love how hyped the crowd was all game long, and to get the game winner on a buzzer beater? So good.

My interpretation:
- downstream consequences of subtotal CCY is generally overestimated & it’s a good bailout strategy when in a pickle.
- but when a completion CCY is warranted, it’s not a simple operation and should be done with appropriate expertise & support.

Your partner sees a pt who has remnant cholecystitis s/p a subtotal CCY last year, and laments that this is an epidemic of the push for more subtotals as a bailout.
We explore this question in our article in @acsJACS & 🧵below.

Great to see that all the efforts from the safe cholecystectomy initiative are paying off with decreased complications and BDI rates.
Message of draining the GB instead of removing it in difficult situations is out there

Proud of my friend. @EleahPorterMD took concept and made it reality. Comprehensive education from c suite to first assist. The definition of impact!
🗣️Hot off the press—Robotic cholecystectomy—new technology but safe principles still apply 🤖
Great work by our @SAGES_Updates Safe Chole group to highlight commitment to CVS no matter the platform

A busy week at @SAGES_Updates with some great hernia sessions and a sold out CBDE course. Already looking forward to SAGES 2027 in Vegas!
Fun week at @SAGES_Updates teaching amongst friends and spreading the good word!
At #SAGES2026, one thing was clear:
Management of choledocholithiasis is being redefined - and surgeons are reclaiming the bile duct.
Our residents had 5 abstracts, including a plenary on RCBDE outperforming ERCP. The SAGES ADOPT CBDE course was sold out and wildly impactful.
