Today on "Problems Democrats Could Fix Right Now": Democrats could lower energy costs RIGHT NOW, but they won't do it. How do we know? Because we passed the HELP UP plan over 5 MONTHS AGO, and it's sitting in the Senate untouched: ✅Lowers electric costs by one billion dollars ✅Erases last 3 years of rate hikes ✅Freezes rates for at least 2 years ✅Gets political activism funding OUT of our monthly utility bills We already gave them the solution. They just don't want to do it.
🔴House Republicans have put your priorities FIRST this term — fixing the roads, government accountability, rooting out waste, fraud, & abuse. 🔵But Senate Democrats insist on holding up other common-sense bills that we passed: 🚫Banning AI surveillance pricing that gouges consumers by watching what they buy 🏡Eliminating the state property tax and saving families $900 a year 🩺Helping Michigan families afford their healthcare and coverage through better price transparency and ending predatory debt collections. 📉Lowering monthly utility bills by refocusing on affordable & reliable energy, freezing rates for at least 2 years, erasing the last 3 years of rate hikes, and getting political activism funding OUT of our utility bills

The Michigan House was the ONLY state chamber in the nation to flip from 🟦Democrat to 🟥Republican in 2024. We gave Democrats the opportunity to vote with the people countless times — and they threw it back in your face: 🗳️Michigan’s SAVE America Act (proof of citizenship to register, voter ID to vote, 80% nationwide support) / ZERO DEMOCRAT VOTES ❌Condemning socialism / All but ONE voted no ✂️Eliminating waste, fraud, & abuse / All but ONE voted no ⚖️Stronger penalties for sexual assault / MOST House Democrats voted no 🏃‍♀️Banning men from girls' sports / ZERO DEMOCRAT VOTES 🇺🇸Prominently displaying American flags in classrooms / MOST House Democrats voted no 🛑Stopping DNR/EGLE from entering private land without a warrant] / MOST House Democrats voted no 🍃Repealing the 100% green energy mandate that keeps driving up utility bills / All but ONE voted no 💡The HELP UP plan to eliminate the state property tax, lower and freeze monthly utility bills, erase three years of rate hikes, and save families $1,400 a year / All but ONE voted no 📵Getting cell phones out of the classroom / ZERO DEMOCRAT VOTES 🏅Honorable mention: Dems accidentally brought a bill to the floor banning DEI hiring practices in state offices. One Democrat still voted no after the rest tried to vote yes to cover the mistake. Some bills the Dems fought the whole way, then lost. Cell phones out of the classroom is now law. So are the House Republican H.E.A.T. accountability and transparency reforms: 🚫Banning lawmakers from becoming lobbyists 🗓️45-day spending-item disclosure 🗣️An expressed purpose on spending items 🖊️The lawmaker’s and the recipient’s name on spending items

People want lower costs. So, we did our part to make it happen💡 🔴House Republicans voted to lower energy rates, erase the last 3 years of rate hikes, and save Michiganders $1 BILLION in the HELP UP plan. 🔵But Democrats REFUSE to lower your rates as the bills are stuck in the Senate. We passed these reforms over 5 months ago — it's time for the Senate to help us make life more affordable in Michigan.
LOWER ELECTRIC BILLS FOR MICHIGAN We passed a plan to force utilities to lower rates, erase the last 3 years of rate hikes, freeze rates for at least two years, and save Michiganders a billion dollars. That's about $250 a year for the average customer. It's been stuck in the Senate since May. Senate Democrats need to stop stalling and pass it.

🚨5 MONTHS AGO TODAY🗓️ Year after year, property taxes continue to go up and housing feels more and more out of reach for families looking to buy their first home — but that could turn around if Senate Democrats would take action. 5 months ago, we passed a plan to lower costs for Michiganders: ✅ELIMINATE the state property tax, saving families $900/year ✅Get rid of the hidden costs of buying and selling a home ✅End the pop-up tax that skyrockets yearly housing costs for families If Senate Democrats really want to help families, they should pass this plan NOW.
While Democrats talk about lowering costs, our HELP UP plan would save families $1,400/year and is sitting in the Dem-led Senate without any action. Here's what the Hall Effectively Lowering Property taxes & Utility Prices plan would do for Michigan: ❌Eliminate the state property tax, pop-up tax, and hidden costs of buying a home 🏡Make home ownership more affordable for young families starting out and seniors on fixed income 📉Lower monthly utility bills by $1 BILLION by prioritizing affordable & reliable energy ✅Freeze utility rates for at least 2 years, ✅erase the last 3 years of rate hikes, and ✅get political activism funding OUT of our monthly electric bills

🚨PROPERTY TAX RELIEF Nearly 5 months ago, House Republicans passed the HELP UP plan: ❌Eliminate the state property tax, saving you $900 a year ❌Eliminate the real estate transfer tax, saving you $2,250 ❌End the "pop-up tax" that spikes your bill after you buy or sell Yet it's sitting in committee in the Senate. Senate Dems don't seem interested in lowering housing costs.

Michigan ranks 44th in the nation in reading. Our schools are going in the wrong direction. So, we finally got Lansing politicians to act: 📵Got cell phones out of the classroom 💰Record per-student funding 📖$222.5 million for literacy supports and teacher training in the science of reading 🍎Healthy free meals for all students through the Hall Universal Breakfast & lunch in Schools program ✏️Dual enrollment expansions 🧑‍🏫Tutors chosen by parents ✅Funding to keep our best local teachers LOCAL
Michigan's 3rd-grade reading scores are 44th in the nation, similar to where Mississippi's scores were in 2013 (49th).  Today, Mississippi is 9th overall after making common-sense changes. It's time for Michigan to do the same: 1. Training teachers in phonics We led the way and got phonics training for teachers secured in the new state budget. 2. Literacy investments We pushed hard this year for early childhood literacy funding and secured millions for coaches, curricula, & more. 3. Better direction for schools and resources for teachers We focused the Department of Education on lesson plans that have proven results. 4. Read-by-third-grade guardrails Michigan Democrats repealed the read-by-third-grade law that used to allow for extra resources and interventions for students that fell behind. We advanced plans to reinstate it this year because our kids deserve to succeed, not be set up to fail down the line. House Republicans are leading the way in Michigan to get back to basics, equip teachers to help students, & assist those who fall behind rather than passing them on unprepared.

Rough roads cost the average Michigan driver over $750/year in extra vehicle costs. That's why we finally got politicians in Lansing to put their money where their mouth is and FIX THE ROADS: 💰$2 billion a year in ongoing funding 🚧Aimed at local roads and bridges 🛣️Every penny at the pump now goes to roads
WATCH: What would Michigan look like without House Republicans? In 2024, we ENDED complete Democrat control of Michigan as the House became the ONLY STATE CHAMBER IN THE NATION to flip from 🔵Democrat to 🔴Republican. We've worked hard putting your priorities first — fixing the roads, holding officials accountable, uncovering billions in taxpayer abuse, and more — and we did it while PROTECTING MICHIGAN from far-left policies:

Our monthly bills are through the roof as it is — we don't need another conflict of interest getting in the way of lower costs. Weeks ago, we passed HB 6282 to ban lawmakers from taking jobs with groups that get cash grants from utility boards and driving up our rates — grants paid for by MICHIGAN FAMILIES through monthly utility bills. Sounds like a great idea, right Senate Dems?
You can't make this stuff up. While Democrats talk about lowering costs, bills that would actually do it are sitting in a Democrat-led chamber.

Michigan Republicans gave Democrats the blueprint. Instead of lowering housing costs, Dems are sitting on their hands.

From young families to seniors on fixed incomes, HELP UP puts about $1,400 a year back in homeowners' pockets. We passed it, yet the Senate won't act on it. How can Senate Dems say they want to lower costs when the answer is sitting in their committee?

The 100% green energy mandate keeps driving up utility bills. House Republicans passed a repeal. Senate Democrats are sitting on it. Reliable, lower-cost energy is something every Michigander can support.

Nobody should have to pay more because a company tracked them online. We passed bills to end AI price gouging. The Senate should follow our lead.
Big corporations use your browsing history, location, and personal data to see what you're willing to pay, then charge you more. We passed bipartisan bills to stop it. Senate Democrats have had them since July. What are they waiting for?

🚨HEALTHCARE COSTS🩺 We passed bills to: 💸Help Michigan families afford their care and coverage 🔎Require better price transparency 🛑End predatory debt collections While Democrats talk about lowering the cost of healthcare, we've sent bills to the Dem-led Senate to do just that. They should pass them.

🚨SEPTEMBER RECAP: 🇺🇸It's been over 5 MONTHS since we passed Michigan's SAVE America Act, yet Senate Dems REFUSE pass this common-sense reform supported by 80% of Americans 🗳️Our select committee heard testimony on the Americans for Citizen Voting petition that was denied on party lines by the Board of State Canvassers after receiving 200k+ more signatures than required 🔎The Oversight Committee further exposed an audit showing that LESS THAN 1% of university research funding through MPHI was actually going to its intended purpose ‼️We gave Democrats a chance to vote to condemn socialism on the House floor, and all but ONE voted against this simple resolution ⚖️The House passed bills to strengthen penalties for criminal sexual conduct, protecting victims and holding criminals accountable for heinous crimes

This year, we made sure people in Michigan have access to more physicians & therapists and shorter wait times. By ensuring Michigan's membership in multiple licensure compacts, qualified practitioners licensed in member states can work in Michigan and serve people in need of care. Less red tape. More care for patients and rural communities. Signed into law.
Today marks 200 days since we saved the licenses of thousands of doctors and protected care for hundreds of thousands of Michiganders through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact🩺 Led by Rylee Linting (Wyandotte), this compact helps to lower costs, shorten wait times, boost care in rural areas, and address shortages of qualified physicians.

"What did the people of the state of Michigan get?" This is what the Oversight Committee has asked so many times this term. Government should be working to improve the quality of life for the people, not spending 99% OF RESEARCH FUNDING on: 💰Non-profit salaries 💰Non-profit benefits 💰Subcontractors 💰"Indirect costs" 💰"Other expenses" 💼Out-of-state firms 🏫Out-of-state universities No more waste, fraud, & abuse. And REAL accountability for the first time in a long time. The House Republicans' newly empowered Oversight Committee is working hard to shine a light on Lansing for you🔎
And this is just the last month. Whether it’s eliminating ghost employees, hunting down slush funds, or holding Jocelyn Benson accountable for millions spent on failed I.T. projects, we’ve been going after the rampant waste, fraud, & abuse in state government.
