My wife does this. She worked for decades in hospitality so "best before" or "use by" dates were ingrained in her modus because serving food that might make her guests ill had severe consequences. I tend to use my nose or experiment with a sense of adventure. Of course I was wrong from time to time. These events were learnings. I still recall when before we were married and she got into my pantry, she tossed two containers of powdered milk that were a decade out of date. They sat on the shelf because I didn't really like the taste. I'd bought them because I had sentimental curiosity about wartime rationing when everybody complained about powdered milk and powdered eggs. Thinking it through the fats in my powdered milk were likely rancid after 10 years. Yet she still buys 2 gallon plastic jugs of "vegetable oil" that lasts many months.
Until 1980 there were no dates on food in Britain. Whether something was fit to eat was decided by the person about to cook it, using her nose. You will have watched your mother do it. The lid off the milk and a sniff. A thumb pressed into the joint. The fish held up and looked in the eye. She knew, in about 2 seconds, and she was never wrong. It was a skill, handed from mother to daughter over the sink, and it ran deeper than checking for bad. - Beef was meant to be dark, having hung at the butcher's for 3 or 4 weeks - A pheasant hung by the neck until it was properly high - Mutton was kept until it had flavour - Milk on the turn was not thrown out, it was baked with - Cheese with a bloom on it had the bloom cut off Meat that has been aged is more tender and tastes of more. Every butcher and every cook understood that time, handled properly, improves an animal. In 1980 date marks became law. The printed number was only ever the manufacturer's cautious guess, but within a generation it had replaced the judgement entirely. Nobody was taught to sniff, because the packet would tell you. So now a steak that is at its very best goes in the bin because it is Thursday. Bright red beef, barely a week from the abattoir, is preferred because it looks fresh. British households throw away millions of tonnes of food a year, much of it unopened. For the whole of human history the final safety check on dinner was a mother's nose. We replaced it with a stamp, and trust the stamp over our own senses.

Thinking about the stories that illegals are given free phones, free SIM cards, free phone plans on arrival. Sounds mad. Unless it's a 4D chess move. Think it through. If you know the phone IMEI, the SIM card ID, the phone number, the phone plan history... You know lots. Where they are Where they have been What default language they choose Who they call Which country they call to maintain links with friends and family. Which apps they load.

You would think so. As did I. Except dishwasher soap is a hot caustic mess that has to be contained in a box because it would strip my skin.

There was that time when my father poached a foil wrapped salmon in the dishwasher (no soap).

Femsplainers can be tedious.
Had a date last week and I knew she was a dud early on when she rolled her eyes and unironically asked if i was "srsly going to mansplain hockey" to her (which was in response to me saying Id take her to a game and explain the rules since she had said she'd never been to a game before and knew nothing about hockey). It was too early to bow out gracefully so I had to grind through it. We ended up talking about geopolitics, and i ended up using the term "American hegemony" and she looked at me condescendingly and said "I dont think youre using the word 'hegemony' correctly [which she was pronouncing "hedge-a-mony"], it has to do with education ". I of course told her she was wrong but she insisted. I then told her to Google it, and the way her smug stupid face fell once she did was better than sex lol.

Only a matter of time before train drivers get to work from home.
The train drivers will get a 100% pay rise and not be expected to turn up.

🚨 UPDATE ON MISSING 3-YEAR-OLD NOAH 🚨 Sadly, there is still no news that little Noah has been found. 💔 The police search is continuing throughout the night, and the public have been asked to stand down for tonight and get some much-needed rest so emergency services can remain fully focused on finding him. Brantham Leisure Centre is staying open overnight, offering free drinks and toilet facilities for anyone who is still helping with the search. The community has once again come together in an incredible effort to bring Noah home. Please keep sharing, keep looking out for him and, most importantly, keep hoping for good news. 🙏🏼💙 Come on Noah, sweetheart. We’re all praying you’re found safe. ❤️

These far right fascist white women display their naked racism on their sleeves. Shame.
THEY TURNED THEIR BACKS ON A VILLAGE OF 350!! You can hear it in her voice. The pain. The fear. Not a speech. A woman who already knows what is coming. One hundred and thirty-three women in Piddington. More than a thousand fighting-age foreign men due next door. Ten to one. From the Third World. Men who are not compatible with this culture or this society. Free to walk out after dark, through a village with no shop, no pub, no light. Those women wrote to every female MP in Parliament. Two hundred and sixty-six of them. Four replied. Two hundred and sixty-two turned their backs. They just don't give a shit about the British people especially frightened women who desperately pleaded for help. A small community of women about to be outnumbered ten to one, begging for safeguarding, and the women in Westminster could not even pick up the letter. Listen to her voice. She already understands. Nobody is coming.

Worse, because these payments are to lease a military base, they will be included in defence spending ergo an increase in the defence budget.
Just a reminder, Starmer is still trying to push through SPENDING £35bn *giving away* Chagos, yet is trying to short change defence budget.

Starmer klaagt dat zonder die vermaledijde Musk en zijn platform de wereld niets zou weten over de dood van Henry Nowak en de omstandigheden daarvan, en nu moet hij zich voor de hele wereld verantwoorden. De arme man.

It will reach full zeitgeist when it becomes the call and response in panto.
Westminster realising their billion pound propaganda machine is going to be derailed over and over again by some derisive variant of "I don't think they were" or "I don't think they have, mate" that was uttered by an organ of the state itself until they go mad. Fate loves irony.

What struck me at the time and only lands harder whenever I think about it now is that Kate was criticised because she was 'religious' and this somehow disqualified her from high public office. Fast forward to today and devotion to a religion does not seem to matter. Unless its Christianity.
The monstering of Kate Forbes, at Nicola Sturgeon’s behest, followed by the coronation of Humza Yousaf, was the SNP’s sliding doors moment. They had one chance to choose seriousness, competence and a clean break from the machine. They chose the machine. Now they are choking on it.

Part of the evidence presented in court was audio recorded on Henry's phone. If CPS have released the phone back to the family, they could publish it.
Henry Nowak was stabbed and left fighting for his life. Police officers handcuffed him as he lay critically injured. Now the public is still waiting to see the bodycam footage. If transparency matters, release the footage when legally possible and let people judge the facts for themselves. Justice should have nothing to fear from the truth.

The kirpan is subject to significant legal restrictions in several European countries with sizable Sikh populations, including: Italy (~210,000–220,000 Sikhs) France (~30,000 Sikhs) Denmark (~4,000–5,000 Sikhs) In Italy, the Supreme Court has upheld restrictions on carrying the kirpan in public. Denmark has had an explicit ban since 2006. Many Sikhs view these limitations as conflicting with their religious obligations. Sikhs have responded through peaceful legal challenges, political advocacy, and public awareness campaigns in attempts to change these laws and secure greater religious accommodations.
What about baptised Sikhs living in Dubai without a kirpan? Are they not Sikhs? I can see only radicalised Sikhs aligned with radical Islamist ideology demanding this. Ban it in UK now

Obvious overreach by @HantsPolice here. I mean they didn't even wait until she had been stabbed. What were they thinking? Quick, check her phone.
Hampshire police arrested a normal woman that was observing her right of free speech or the lack of it in this country! Just because a foreigner cried out probably at hurty words but that’s our country @elonmusk

Why on earth did they handcuff her? I mean she hadn't even been stabbed. Sheesh.
“WHY ARE YOU ACTUALLY DETAINING ME?!” In this unbelievable footage taken by @laudyvisits at a protest in Portsmouth, two British women are detained, one handcuffed, and marched away by officers. For reasons unclear to everyone involved. Hampshire Police, again.

Carol @carolvorders should take a seat and rest her rusty starfish. Fern Cotton @Realferncotton gets called out here "hers was pretty messed up". That was only because Sean was protecting Carol as she was the original inspiration for the 1812 overture. youtu.be/cPpac4QGmXE Vorderman would have won the World's in Cancun. She would have brought the house down. youtu.be/cp8DQHI3HL8
I'm seeing far too many posts about Carol Vorderman's bum hole on here tonight. Time for bed I think.
