This is Estela Vejil, ECISD’s longest continuously serving employee, who has dedicated an incredible 44 years to serving our students, staff and community. Today, we’re proud to recognize Estela, who began her journey with the district in 1982. Over the years, she has worn many hats across ECISD, serving the district in several different roles. Today, she continues that legacy as ECISD’s Risk Benefits Manager. For more than four decades, Estela has watched ECISD grow and change- from the days of typewriters and carbon paper to the technology we use today. Through all those years, one thing hasn’t changed: her love for ECISD. When asked what has kept her here, Estela said simply, “It’s a good place to work,” adding that ECISD has always felt like home. To celebrate her incredible 44 years of service, ECISD leadership surprised Estela with some well-deserved relaxation- a special treatment at Woodhouse Spa and a weekend stay at the Odessa Marriott Hotel! Thanks to a $5.5 million investment from the Permian Strategic Partnership, ECISD and Midland ISD are launching the Permian Basin Literacy Initiative to strengthen early reading instruction for K–2 students. Through professional learning, coaching, and research-based support for educators, this multi-year partnership will help build stronger readers and brighter futures across the Permian Basin.
