Our love and support for Fiona, and our gratitude for her service are equalled by our revulsion and disgust at the racist abuse she has received following her success yesterday.
Congratulations to PC Fiona Shaik Umar from the Metropolitan Police Service, winner of our Outstanding Contribution to Women in Policing Award. Through her work on the Hijab Project, Fiona has helped break down barriers and create a more inclusive service.

The vast majority of criticism was not because she is Muslim, but because she was not following very basic gun safety rules. Her finger was on the trigger and she pointed the barrel of the gun at a fellow officer. gunsafetyrules.nra.org hunter-ed.com/muzzleloader/s… x.com/BasilTheGreat/… x.com/WilkieisBack66… x.com/LozzaFox/statu…

With just one first name to go on, PC Max Kelly tracked down a burglary suspect who had targeted a vulnerable man in his own home twice in two weeks. By building trust with the victim, Max uncovered a crucial lead, matched it to police records and CCTV footage, and spotted the suspect as he travelled to make the arrest. Tyrone Muir, who pleaded guilty in court in July 2026, has now been sentenced to 3 years and 2 months in prison.

Two off-duty Met officers were heading home after a night shift when they spotted a burglary in progress. They called 999 and waited outside as the suspect emerged from the premises carrying a crowbar. Despite being off duty, the officers stepped in and detained him. He later pleaded guilty to burglary and going equipped for burglary.

25 years on, we honour those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks, the survivors, their families and loved ones, and the emergency responders who risked everything to help others. Earlier this year, the Commissioner paid tribute on behalf of the Met by laying a wreath at the National September 11 Memorial in New York. Time passes, but we will #NeverForget

Behind every name remembered today is a life dedicated to protecting others. Today, at our Annual Ceremony of Remembrance, we honour Metropolitan Police officers who served in harm’s way, and those who paid the ultimate price. Their legacy lives on in those they protected and those who continue to serve. Words by Rev. Prebendary Jonathan Osborne MBE, Senior Chaplain.

We continue to see large crowds in the area around the Emirates and have unfortunately received further reports of officers being assaulted. Today's event has been mostly celebratory, but we were clear that we will not tolerate anti-social behaviour, disorder or other criminality. Officers will make use of dispersal powers to prevent criminality and make further arrests where offences are committed.

Watch as police officers confront a man suspected of carrying out a terrorist attack in north London where two men were stabbed. The suspect refused to show his hands, was violent and continued to pose a clear threat. Using only their training, courage and tasers, they detained him while he continued to try to attack and stab them. This took true courage.

The IOPC's action to direct @metpoliceuk to bring gross misconduct proceedings against W80, even after being offered detailed evidence, was disgraceful, irrational and unfair. The Government must urgently implement Accountability Review recommendations. polfed.org/news-events/lates…
The Commissioner has spoken about the “broken” police accountability system after the misconduct case against Met firearms officer W80 was dismissed – following an extraordinary 10 years of “legal madness”. Read more: news.met.police.uk/news/misc…

Officers policing the Defend Our Juries protest in Parliament Square have been subjected to an exceptional level of abuse including punches, kicks, spitting and objects being thrown, in addition to verbal abuse. Any assaults against officers will not be tolerated and arrests have already been made. We will identify all those responsible and prosecute to the full extent of the law.
