❗️Weather Update❗️
The remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur are moving into Mississippi today. MEMA has already received reports of flash flooding, and the National Weather Service has issued several tornado warnings. The threat of flash flooding is highest in south Mississippi, but the entire state could see flash flooding with heavy rainfall expected throughout the day today (6/18/26) and into tonight.
🌊 Avoid already flooded areas (a flowing stream can carry a vehicle downstream!)
🌃🚧Never drive around barricades. Roads may be flooded or closed.
🛣️Identify alternate routes to your destinations in case of flooded roads
📲Follow our friends @MississippiDOT for updates on road conditions

Today for Severe Weather Preparedness Week, we are talking about Flash Flooding. Did you know that it only takes 6 inches of fast-moving water to knock over and carry away a person and that 12 inches of moving water can carry away a car? With the potential for flash flooding over the next few days, this is a reminder to turn around, don't drown!

DANGEROUS FIRE WEATHER—Due to dry weather and little to no rain (10.16.24), there's a statewide risk of dangerous fire conditions, making fires more likely to escape control. Open burning is strongly discouraged. Don't let trailer chains drag on highways, and dispose of cigarettes properly. 🔥
