I had the recent privilege of attending the British Columbia Premier’s Vaisakhi Luncheon. The essence of Vaisakhi is Seva, principle of unconditional service to all, and standing up for those without a voice. The one individual who personifies this best is Baltej Dhillon. I had the honour of meeting him at the luncheon. His journey was a source of inspiration for many of us of South Asian descent, with ambitions of joining law enforcement. He was the first turban wearing Sikh with the RCMP. His courage to challenge the status quo set precedent which paved the path for others of Sikh faith to follow their dreams of wearing a uniform.
